Antonio Brown had spent just a few months with the Raiders. But it seems the team had a huge effect on him. Now, as they have announced their ‘permanent’ Head Coach, Brown has something to say about the team owner. He has a stormy past with the team. Brown came over to the Raiders (then known as Oakland Raiders) in 2019. But in that same year, he became embroiled in some serious controversy. What was the controversy?

He wanted to keep wearing his old helmet, which the NFL had banned. One thing led to another, and in the end he was fined $215,000. And no, it was not by the NFL. It was by his own team. He had bad-mouthed the then-GM Mike Mayock. Anyway, he’s left the NFL now. So, what did he have to say about the owner of his previous team?

Many players had been rooting for Antonio Pierce. They wanted the owner of the team to strip the “interim” from his job title. And he listened. Pierce will now be just “Head Coach”. Brown’s joy knew no bounds. He immediately took to X to share his admiration of the Raiders’ owner. He addressed Mark Davis as the “most genuine owner”.

His praise just didn’t end there. Brown said that Davis was not really close with his team’s players. He may not have known most of their names. For Davis, it was just the entire squad. His Raiders. AS Pierce takes up the mantle, will he be able to turn around the Raiders’ fortunes? Or were his regular-season successes a misrepresentation of his coaching abilities?

Can Antonio Pierce revive the lost Raiders?

Here is a nonexhaustive list of reasons why Davis made the right choice. The Raiders were 0.385 without Pierce. However, as he walked into the locker room as interim HC, guess what the record jumped to? 0.750! If only they had given him the head coaching duties much earlier. Maybe they would have made it to the playoffs. And who can forget the Chargers’ humiliation? They won 63-21! That’s not all, though.

Thanks to Pierce, the team is 3rd in sacks, 10th in takeaways and 5th in turnover margin. And he has another card up his sleeve. When Draft time comes around in April, the 13th overall pick Raiders will try to sign Jayden Daniels.

Here’s where it gets interesting. Pierce actually kicked off Daniels’ career. Years later, when he won the Heisman Trophy, he even thanked Pierce in his acceptance speech. Keeping that aside, it looks like it’s the beginning of a new era for the Raiders.
