Saquon Barkley‘s prowess in football has been crystal clear since his college days. One of the most shining specimens of his talent was in the game against Iowa in 2017. At the most crucial point in the fourth quarter, the running back performed a feat that left everyone in awe of the young player, including the Chiefs’ tight end, Travis Kelce.
In a conversation with the Kelce brothers on their podcast, New Heights, Barkley got candid about his recent switch to the Eagles and plans for the future season. After playing six seasons in the league, the former Giants RB admitted that now he can appreciate his college play videos on social media. Expressing disbelief at Barkley’s modesty, Kelce gave his honest reaction to his iconic moment.

On the New Heights podcast, Barkley shared his thoughts on coming across tweets of his college football days. He admitted that as he stands on the brink of entering his seventh season, the RB is awed by his past plays. “I’m at that point now where, like, I’m year seven, where it’s like, I look back on like some of my college stuff,” Barkley shared. “I’ll see it, and I’d be like, damn like, I was really raw low key.”
Kelce was amazed at Barkley’s laidback reaction and chose to impress the gravity of his talent by quoting his performance against Iowa in 2017. Penn State was in dire need of a first down in the fourth quarter when RB got the ball and, against all odds, did the unexpected. Describing the incident as the “most freakishly athletic thing,” Kelce showered Barkley in praises.
Barkley’s hero moment with Penn State
The NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year was the 2nd overall pick in the 2018 draft, and for good reason. Barkley had established he was a force to reckon with when he helped his team win against Iowa in Big Ten a year prior. Penn State clinched their 21-19 win with Barkley’s heroic moment on getting a pass from Trace McSorley. The running back hurdled over the charging defenders, rushing onwards.

Apart from cementing his team’s win, Barkley set some records of his own. He had 358 all-purpose yards, the most for Penn State in a single game. The running back’s coach, James Franklin, said it all in his statement post-game. “I cannot imagine that there’s a better player in all of college football. This guy is special,” said Franklin, as per The Gazette.
