“I want to be out there to display my talent and bring a trophy home to a city.” These are the words of a defensive end who had seven back-to-back double-digit sack seasons and over 100 career sacks. Yeah, we’re talking about Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns. Now, those stats might look all shiny and impressive, but when you look at how many Super Bowl titles they’ve actually won? Yeah, it’s a big ol’ zero. Zip. Nada. Diabolical!
The result? The 29-year-old DE doesn’t want to play for the Browns anymore and requested a trade. The reason’s simple. He wants to win a title, and Cleveland doesn’t seem like a right fit for him. The catch? The team isn’t ready to part ways with him because, of course, he’s Myles Garrett. And it looks like his misery isn’t gonna end anytime soon—at least, that’s what the NFL analyst at ESPN, Benjamin Solak, believes.
On Monday, Solan appeared on Kay Adams’ Up & Adams Show, and when asked what’s going to happen with Garrett, Solak made it clear that the Browns are not gonna let go of Garrett. “You know, I think that Myles is going to decide where he wants to go if and when the Browns trade him, and that deal is going to kind of be done very quickly in a dramatic fashion,” he replied. “And so it’s all right. If Myles Garrett wants to be a Green Bay Packer, then he’s going to hold out and the Browns’ gonna do this.”

ESPN’s @BenjaminSolak believes the Myles Garrett situation in Cleveland could be dragged out into the preseason. 👀

Solak further added, “The other thing enforces the issue; other than that, I don’t know. I think this is going to last for a long time. I think you’re gonna see Myles Garrett back in the Browns uniform; I think it’s going to be frustrating. It’s gonna be training camp trauma. The Browns don’t want to move him. He’s Myles Garrett. You can’t want to move the guy.”
You see, the Browns have all the control over Garrett, but the DE made it clear that he’ll do whatever it takes to get traded. And if the organization finally decides to move on from him, one question’s still gonna remain unanswered. Which team will trade for him? Well, some believe the Packers, who, unlike the Browns, have a decent chance of winning a Super Bowl. And that’s what Bill Barnwell of ESPN thinks.
“And yet, if anybody should know about the benefits of adding a Hall of Fame-caliber player in the prime of their careers, wouldn’t it be the Packers? This is the same organization that signed Reggie White as a 31-year-old and saw the Hall of Fame edge rusher rack up 68.5 sacks over six seasons.” But at the end of the day, it all boils down to one thing—the Browns have the upper hand when it comes to Myles Garrett’s trade request.
So, looks like the Browns aren’t gonna let go of Garrett unless there’s a profitable option.
Will the Browns trade Myles Garrett and Deshaun Watson?
At this point, the Browns are in a tricky situation over Myles Garrett and Deshaun Watson’s trade in 2025. Oh no, we aren’t talking about the former’s trade request and the latter’s injury. It’s the money game that’s making spicy headlines. See, in 2025, Watson’s cap hit is towering high, worth $72.9M. And beyond that? It’s a massive $99.8M—thanks to his massive five-year contract. And in the case of Garrett, it’s $32.95M, which is a lot of money for a player who’s being traded.
Here’s the deal: if the Browns trade Watson before June 1, they would take a huge dead money cap hit of $80.77M in 2025 for the trade. Likewise, if they trade Garrett before June 1, his cap hit for 2025 would be $32.95M. Now, the organization can do two things. They could make the trades now and take a big cap hit or hold off and spread those payments out over the next couple of years—a tough choice, right?

But honestly, the latter option seems pretty manageable for them. I mean, if they trade Watson post-June 1, the cap hit for the QB is going to be significantly reduced to $26.9M in 2025, and the rest of the cap would be pushed to 2026. The same goes for Garrett as well. If they go the same way with the DE, his cap would drop from $32.95M to just $3.63M. And the remaining money would hit in 2026.
Long story short: if the Browns delay both trades (Watson and Garrett) until after June 1, the overall cap hit in 2025 would drop from $113.7M to just $30.6M. The way things are shaping up, the team’s got to make a tough call sooner than expected.
