The 49ers went from one of the most revered teams to one of the most controversial ones in just a matter of weeks. Some time ago, Brock Purdy was the king of the quarterbacks, but it seems like he and the team have taken a fall. Brock Purdy is in the limelight and not for good reasons. Seems like Shannon Sharpe’s words had some substance to them.
Now Skip Bayless has come forward with his take following the devastating loss the 49ers faced against the Bengals. The 49ers went from the 1 team in the NFC West to being 2 in no time. Also, some facts about Purdy have come to light in the wake of this loss, thanks to Skip Bayless.

The latest upload from Undisputed left no stone unturned when it came to the 49ers. Right off the bat, Bayless mentioned that ‘Brock Purdy has fallen’ to 9 in the MVP odds, whereas a week ago, he was the number 1 in the odds. ‘He’s starting to look a little more like the guy who’s known as Mr. Irrelevant because he was the last pick in the draft.’ Per Bayless, Purdy is a ‘gutty overachiever’ who tends to take a lot of risks. These tendencies have landed Brock Purdy in unfavorable situations as the team withstood yet another loss.

Skip concludes with food for thought as he says, ‘Is it possible that the 49ers maxed out, while we crapped out? Is it possible they played their Super Bowl that night while we played our toilet bowl that night?’ referring to the notorious Cowboys game that happened a few days ago on SNF. Things went south very quickly and keeping that in mind, Skip Bayless quickly switched sides on Purdy after calling him an ‘early Tom Brady’. Why? Because of his mobility and his ability to fit the passes in tight windows.

It’s amusing to see how Bayless switched sides on the QB that fast. From calling him an early Tom Brady to calling him Mr. Irrelevant, things have shifted too quickly. But slander is nothing new to Brock Purdy as Shannon Sharpe raised questions around him a while back.

A few days ago, Shannon Sharpe came out and called Brock Purdy a ‘system’ quarterback. The premise behind this is the fact that he is being used by Kyle Shanahan systematically to make offensive plays. Adding to this, he relies heavily on Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel. Sharpe believes that this lack of conscious decision making has put him in the ranks of a system QB and doesn’t deserve as much hype as he is given.
There is no contesting the fact that Brock Purdy took his team to a new plateau ever since he took Trey Lance‘s place as the QB1. He took his team for 15 straight wins, helped Kittle and CMC to make records. On top of this, the Cowboys game was nothing short of Purdy showing excellence. It’s not easy to beat the best defense in the league with flying colors like the 49ers did.
