Is Jerry Jones' stubbornness the real reason behind the Cowboys' lackluster performance?

Before the 2024 season, the Dallas Cowboys became the most valuable NFL team and biggest sports franchise with a $10 billion valuation. But are they the most competitive? Results don’t imply that. After 3 games, the team is reeling at a 1-2 win-loss record. Who is to blame? Not their players! Owner and GM, Jerry Jones, recently admitted that it was very fair to blame him for the results. And he has come under attack.

Former Cowboys DE, Chris Canty, criticized the Cowboys on the ESPN Unsportsmanlike Show and said, “What we’re seeing now with the Dallas Cowboys is just a reflection of what the owner has done over the last 28 seasons which has been more bark than bite.” He’s right. After buying the team in 1989, he won 3 Super Bowls in 7 years. But since then, the trophies have dried up.

He extended the contracts with CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. While the QB currently sits atop the league rankings for the most passing yards (851), he hasn’t taken them to claim the victory. On the other side, the wide receiver only has 13 catches in 218 yards with one touchdown. But the WR needs time. He didn’t attend the training camp and preseason. Ex-NFLer attacked Jerry Jones for creating the situation which forced him to sit out.

Canty’s exact words were, “Hedging on whether he wanted to sign CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott and then giving those guys the contracts in the eleventh hour after Lamb missed the majority of the training camp. To get that work in the regular season, it doesn’t just make any sense.

Well, there’s not a fixed recipe for success on the gridiron. And Jerry Jones still isn’t giving up. When asked if any roster addition was needed in the Cowboys, the owner politely refused and said that his men would do the job.

After Jerry Jones, CeeDee Lamb says he failed

In the first game, a win against Browns, the WR made 5 receptions for 61 yards. Next game, a L against Saints, he took 4 catches with 90 yards and 1 touchdown. CeeDee Lamb was the top receiver for the Cowboys in the first 2 games. In the 3rd game, a defeat against Ravens, he only made 4 receptions for 67 yards. Jake Ferguson replaced him as the WR in the game. This has disappointed the elite WR.

Feeling dejected, he didn’t talk to reporters after Ravens’ loss. But on 24th of September, he took the accountability (like Jerry Jones) and said, “I expect a lot out of myself, more than anyone could put on me. And, quite honestly, I failed myself.” He didn’t make any excuses for his performance and claimed he would return stronger. He needs to. It’s high time!

Dak Prescott needs him to lead the offense with fieriness. When Lamb didn’t attend preseason because of a contract dispute with Jerry Jones, the quarterback stood by his WR. He had exuded confidence that they needed a couple of practice sessions to get back in tune. After Ravens defeat, they also had a talk on the sideline. Both need to put the past behind and combine for the better.

The Thursday Night Football game against New York Giants is crucial for the America’s Team. Jerry Jones’ stance might change with one more loss. Stay tuned! We’ll cover everything from the locker room to the sidelines.
