Mama Mahomes revealed a light-hearted, yet significant, four-year plan she had envisioned for Patrick during his high school years. “We had a four-year plan when he started high school,” she explained. Further continuing, she said, “We were going to go to college close to the beach. Whoever offered, so when he would get a college letter from like Hawaii or Florida, I’d be like, hey!”
However, Patrick Mahomes had other plans, choosing to attend Texas Tech instead. “Whenever he said, you know, Lubbock, I was like, what? What are you talking about? There’s sand in the beach, it’s just a long way to the water.” This deviation from her plan continued into his son’s professional career. When Patrick was getting ready for the NFL draft, his mother prayed for a “godly place” for him to play. But her hopes for a coastal city were dashed again when the Kansas City Chiefs picked him. “Could it not be toward the beach? Like, no, it’s not,” she joked.
