It was a shocker. The Chargers fanbase didn’t expect the outside linebacker Joey Bosa to leave the franchise. Particularly just days after the GM, Joe Hortiz praised the linebacker, claiming he would like to keep him in the building. But things have changed. He has now been moved on. Analysts are already predicting his next team. The biggest show of support amidst all this came from the LB’s mom, Cheryl Bosa.

She posted an Instagram story on March 5 that had a photo of both her sons. Joey Bosa and 49ers LB Nick Bosa. But she turned heads by writing, “BREAKING NEWS Can we get a petition going on bringing the @JBBigBear to the bay #bosabrothers 🐻🐻 @nbsmallerbear@cherylbosa” She is already playing agent for her son with the hopes of seeing both brothers on the field in the same colors. Expect teams to come running for the 2016 Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Joey Bosa started 93 games (107 games overall) for the team, excelling with 72 sacks and 343 tackles (252 solo). The LB has recorded the 2nd most sacks in the franchise history, and also the fastest to 50 sacks. That is rich history for the player and the league. Cheryl also felt proud of her son’s achievements in the sport.

She shared another IG story with the caption, “Could not be prouder than my son, Joey.” Not only her, everyone else was emotional over him leaving. The story was from the Chargers’ carousel of photos and videos of Joey Bosa over the 9 seasons he played for the Chargers. It showed the LB celebrating wins with his teammates. They also paid tribute to the athlete with a caption, “thx for everything, joey 💙”

The biggest question mark was over why they released him just days after hyping up his contribution. The 2024 season played a huge role.

Chargers save a fortune with Joey Bosa decision

The Chargers think tank, led by HC Jim Harbaugh, had to take the harsh decision over Bosa’s $36.4 million cap number. By releasing him, they have now saved $25 million in cap space. It will help them bring in fresh talent and address some pressing needs. However, that wasn’t the only concern.

The 2024 season was riddled with injuries. In August 2024, Joey Bosa hurt his left hand during a joint practice session with the LA Rams. In the season opener against LV Raiders, he hurt his back. During the week 3 game against the Steelers, he again suffered a hip injury.

Not only the last season, in fact, 2022 and 2023 were worse. In the last 3 seasons, Bosa has only played 28 games (18 started). His absence has hurt the team on many occasions.
