Josh Allen had a memorable year. Reaching the AFC Championship and winning the MVP definitely embellished his worth. There’s no doubt he is among the top quarterbacks of the NFL. And now he and his Buffalo Bills are focusing on their preparations to take it a step higher and make it to the Super Bowl this time. But there’s some recent news distracting the QB. Especially because it has ties to some past connections with a Jacksonville Jaguars player.
The Jaguars are planning something big. That too all in one day! We are aware of how the Jags’ journey went in the 2024 season. With just 4 wins and 13 massive losses, their team fell flat on their face. But to develop and grow is the key in the league. They are looking to do the same. According to NFL reporter, Ari Meirov on X, “The #Jaguars, in a single day, traded WR Christian Kirk to Houston, will release TE Evan Engram, KR/PR Devin Duvernay, WR Josh Reynolds, and CB Ronald Darby, and also saw starting C Mitch Morse retire.”
Seems like indeed some big changes in the roster—all made to clear cap space. But Mitch Morse’s retirement news has even impacted Josh Allen, besides the center’s own team. That’s the reason the Bills QB shared the athlete’s retirement note in his official Instagram story. And with it, the quarterback made sure to drop a goat emoji, referring to him as the GOAT!

Mitch Morse and MVP Josh Allen played together for five seasons, from 2019-2023. During this time, the retiring athlete played 77 games for Buffalo. But now, as he is hanging up his cleats, Allen is happy, proud, and emotional for his former teammate. Even Morse too acknowledged the love he got from all the franchises he worked with, including the Bills.
That’s the reason why on his retirement note, Morse said, “The things I’ll remember and cherish most about my career are the relationships and bonds I created with my teammates, both on and off of the field. Nothing can replace that, and I will miss it dearly. I want to thank the Kansas City Chiefs (his 2015 draft team), Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars for ten unforgettable seasons. Most of all, I want to thank my wife, Catilin, and my children Kennedy and Deacon for their constant love and support on this journey. I look forward to spending more time with them as I navigate retirement.”
Although Morse had one year remaining on a $10.5 million contract, his departure now frees up $735,294 in salary cap space for the Jaguars. Josh Allen is happy to see his ex-teammate achieving what he wanted before retirement. On the other hand, the QB and his team are sorry for a recent release of their own.

Josh Allen’s Bills released Sam Martin
Things are difficult in the NFL. Sometimes you can blame the performance of a player, while sometimes you can blame the situation on financial structuring issues. At the risk of stating the obvious, Josh Allen’s Bills move ahead with the second situation when it came to deciding on the future of Sam Martin.

The time of roster cuts has arrived for Josh Allen’s team. And the franchise decided to release Martin. Why? Well, they might probably want to invest in a younger and cheaper option this time. With the release of the punter, who was entering the final year of his contract, the Bills saved almost $1.9 million in cap space.
Like Mitch Morse, Sam Martin also had one year left on his contract on his $6 million deal of three years. He even averaged an impressive 46.7 yards per punt in 2024. But at the age of 35, Martin lost his place with the team, as Josh Allen’s Bills now want a young and cheaper punter for the next season. It’s a tough world, professional football. At least these two, and especially retiring Morse, can hold their head high for making it for so long in such a tough league. As for Martin, maybe he has one final chapter to write.
