Myles Garrett recently surprised everyone as he made a statement, sharing his desire to play elsewhere. The Browns’ DE is inarguably one of the best in the league and was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2023. On Monday, the 29-year-old shared a statement in which he thanked the Browns fans, talked about how he doesn’t want to be complacent, and how his goal is to win the Super Bowl. Ever since this statement by Garrett, people have been speculating about why he took this decision and where he could eventually move to.
Recently, Stephen A. Smith talked about the whole situation. The 57-year-old in no subtle way blamed QB Deshaun Watson for his poor performance and for Garrett asking for a trade. He said, “The Browns organization, they’ve been in the playoffs two times in the last 5 years, that’s the good news, and that’s really not that good. The real bad news is that they’ve been to 2 playoff games, two the playoffs twice in the last 22-23 years. This is a team that has not gotten it done and the person that I blame the most unfortunately, respectfully is Deshaun Watson.”
Stephen A. Smith blames Deshaun Watson for Myles Garrett requesting a trade from the #Browns:
“The person that I blame the most…is Deshaun Watson. Had Deshaun Watson gotten to Cleveland and balled the way he showcased how he could ball when he was a Houston Texan, Myles… pic.twitter.com/MkIEzdaBoY

Smith even talked about how he believed if Watson performed at the level he could and was supposed to, Garrett wouldn’t be leaving. He said, “If Deshaun Watson had gotten to Cleveland and ball the way he was capable to, the way he showcased how he could ball when he was a Houstan Texan, Miles Garrett would not be asking for this trade.” The Deshaun Watson trade cost the Browns 3-first round picks, and it did not help them at all. They ended the season 3-14, and it has just been poor for Watson and the Browns.

Add to that the fact that Watson is suffering from an injury, which likely will not allow him to compete for at least half of the 2025 season, and it looks really bad. To top it all out, it is rumored that the Browns are now looking to cut him. Well, things clearly don’t seem to be going Watson’s way.
Where could Myles Garrett end up?
Well, while Watson’s future with the team is still not clear, Garrett is now definitely moving away. As soon as this statement by Garrett was shared, the first question that crossed everyone’s mind was where to? Well, there are a few teams that would look to get Garrett, and the one that looks like the most obvious destination for him is the Lions. The Lions were amongst the best team in the NFL this season and many thought they could go all the way this time around! Alas, that wasn’t the case, and they ended up losing to the Commanders in the Divisional Playoff game.

Now, with their season ending, the Lions would reflect upon their team and make some changes to strengthen the squad. And one area that they definitely need is a pass rush opposite Aiden Hutchinson, and Myles Garrett is definitely someone who can be that person. Well, not just the Lions but the Commanders also require someone like Garrett. The Commanders have built up quite a squad, but the area of concern remains the edge rusher spot, and adding Garrett to their defensive lion will definitely bolster their squad.
Garrett is definitely a top prospect and several teams will look to get him in their squad. Where he ends up going, we will just have to wait and find out.
