The Minnesota Vikings won the game against the Green Bay Packers, but it came with a cost. A cost that Kirk Cousins had to pay alone! And for the foreseeable future, things look pretty bleak for the Vikings QB1. Cousins suffered an Achilles injury that put him in a difficult spot. Now, while he struggles with the injury, some more interesting facts come out regarding the Minnesota QB1.
A post from Pro Football Talk raised some questions about Cousins’ career trajectory. It has forced the coach Kevin O’Connell to put his thinking cap on and look for future alternatives if things don’t work out as he wants them to with the QB. The Vikings are hanging by a thread of hope and are praying that matters go their way in the impending issue.

Kirk Cousins is in the last stages of his contract with the Minnesota Vikings. This marks his ending season with the Vikings, and he will turn a free agent after the 2023 season. However, his recent Achilles injury might become a thorn in the bush for the footballer as teams might not consider him a wise choice for the trade.

In the midst of this, coach O’Connell had a wake-up call and expressed his thoughts on Cousins’ absence. He underlined the fact about hoping for the QB to return to the side in the 2024 season, reflecting his belief and reliance on the star player and his techniques.
For now, though, the Vikings might have to work with Jaren Hall, Nick Mullens, or Josh Dobbs for the remainder of this season. However, Kirk Cousins is still a core part of the team, but his return to the Vikings currently due to injury stands in the impossible lense. This might encourage Cousins to come back to the Vikings next season and make coach O’Connell’s wishes come true, though.
Yet, if Cousins does not make it back to the Vikings for some reason, the team would be looking at some of the top NCAA contenders like Shedeur Sanders or Drake Maye. However, Kevin O’Connell has unparalleled trust in Kirk Cousins and would be hoping strongly for his return to the Vikings offense.

Kirk Cousins has multiple times in the past expressed his desire to stay with the Minnesota Vikings. Not only can he execute O’Connell’s offense like threading a needle, but throughout the years, the duo have developed an unmatchably close bond with each other. Per O’Connell, the doors to Valhalla are always open for Kirk Cousins and he may choose to return anytime he pleases.
Cousins’ return to the Vikings depends on a lot of things. First of all, there is the issue of injury. Secondly, he would be negotiating a new contract wherever he lands. And there is arguably the point that he might prefer a better contract over staying with his former side.
