As the NFL free agency is less than a month away, the teams are getting a major salary cap boost for the 2025 season. And Mike Vrabel’s New England Patriots are no stranger to this. Nah, scratch that. They will have even more cap space in 2025 than it was previously expected. Yep, you read that right. Recently, the NFL announced the basic range for the salary cap. And the buzz is that the Patriots are all set to have over $130M in cap space in 2025.
Looks like the team was waiting for this announcement. The reason? Well, right after the news hit the headlines, the team signed two exclusive rights free agents – center Ben Brown and offensive tackle Demontrey Jacobs. Both contracts have been filed with the NFL. Their contract terms? Brown’s 1-year deal is worth a base salary of $1.3 million and Jacob’s 1-year deal is worth $960K.

Alright, let’s talk about the Patriots’ center—because, finally, Brown can breathe easy for a second. The guy’s been living out of a suitcase, bouncing from city to city since going undrafted in 2022. After that, the 26-year-old has been a part of a total of five teams. The New England team signed him back in October 2024. And looks like they’ve decided to hit pause on his never-ending road trip given the guy just signed one one-year deal.
As for his track record, you can just say that the guy’s looking for a chance. In the last season, he started in every game that he played for the Patriots and had just 1 solo tackle before missing out on the final two games due to a concussion.
On the flip side, the OT, Demontrey Jacobs, had a similar story as Brown. Oh no, he didn’t change five teams in a couple of years. The 26-year-old OT was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Broncos back in the 2023 season. However, the Denver team decided to waive him the following season. With that being said, the Patriots claimed him off waivers.
Plus, the Patriots snagged him as one of four waiver pickups last season. Entering New England, Jacobs made his first career start in week 4 and went on to start the rest of the season with a total of 11 starts at right tackle and two at left tackle. The team’s looking to beef up the O-line, and Jacobs will be fighting for his spot on next season’s roster.

A look at Mike Vrabel’s team’s $130M+ boost
According to a report by ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the NFL announced on Wednesday that the salary cap for 2025 will “fall in the range of $277.5 million to $281.5 million.” That said, the New England team’s all set to get over $130M of cap space in 2025. To be more accurate, according to the salary cap expert Miguel Benzan, the team is gonna have a massive cap between $131.19M and 135.19M.

The kicker? It’s the highest number this season. Trailing behind are the Las Vegas Raiders and the Washington Commanders having nearly $100M and $85M, respectively. Now, the team probably has a lot of things to do. First, a bunch of players are entering the final year of their contract. That means the team may need to lose their purse and offer them a contract extension. But of course, that’s gonna be their secondary concern.
First and foremost, 12 players of the team are hitting free agency this offseason. With a heft cap space in hand, the team must be eyeing a potential investment to re-sign their free agents. However, Mike Vrabel may use a majority of the resources to sign players outside of their organization. After all, the team’s looking to repeat the history and win their seventh Lombardy in 2025.
