Mike Vrabel is currently the talk of the town. Almost every NFL team in need of an HC is looking toward Vrabel, and why not? Being involved with 4 NFL teams in a coaching capacity, having worked as the HC of the Titans from 2018 to 2023, and winning the 2021 NFL Coach of the Year award will get you some fans. If that wasn’t enough, Vrabel’s record as a player and his ability to stand up and lead teams makes him an amazing prospect for any team.

Many people believe that plenty of teams will tempt Vrabel, one of them being the Raiders. Recently on the UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio, Super Bowl champion Chris Canty shared his thoughts on the same. Speaking about where Vrabel should go, he said, “If it comes down to it, if you are Mike Vrabel this is a no-brainer, it’s not a hard decision.” Canty believes Vrabel should not look towards the Raiders and clearly said, “Make no mistake about it, the Patriots job is a much more attractive job than the Raiders job.”

The Raiders have not had stability in terms of HCs since Mark Davis took over as owner. The team has had 7 coaches since 2011 and that clearly shows something is off when it comes to the HC role over there.

The former Ravens man talked about the advantages of talking over the Pats job and how it is the ‘more attractive job.’ The biggest plus point for Vrabel in joining the Patriots is the presence of an incredible quarterback there and that is exactly what Canty mentioned, “You do have the quarterback which is the hardest part of any of these NFL jobs to figure out.”

Canty certainly is right when he talks about the QB as Drake Maye has impressed one and all this season. Maye showed great promise this season and racked up some great performances as he completed 66.6 percent of his passes for 2,276 yards with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 13 games. Those stats are great for someone who wasn’t supported by anyone in offense and was the only light of hope in a poor season for the Pats.

Vrabel might be tempted to join the Raiders but is clear that it should be the Patriots’ way for Vrabel. Chris Canty certainly believes so!

If not Vrabel, who should the Raiders look to?

The Raiders have had 13 coaches since the turn of the century, yes 13. None of their coaches have had a long stint with the team and there clearly is something that has been going wrong when it comes to the HC position with the Raiders. Following Antonio Pierce’s departure after the end of this season, the Raiders need someone who can bring some stability to the team and can be a long-term prospect.

Mike Vrabel clearly would be a great option, but currently, all indicators show that Vrabel will join his former team. Who then? Who can the Raiders look towards as a potential HC? Well, the best option right now could be the Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Well, it makes perfect sense, doesn’t it? The Raiders have had an issue with their offense, so why not get the person who helped the Lions become one of the best teams in the NFL this season?

Johnson has just been exceptional during his time with the Detroit Lions. Since he joined the team, they have had top 5 offense every season. Just during the 2024 season, they have had some incredible records to their name, even achieving the highest PPG in franchise history. The Lions last season had six games of 40+ points, and became the 2nd team in NFL history to produce four different players with 1,000 scrimmage yards – and they became the first team to do it with two wide receivers and two running backs. Those are some records!!

It’s true that Johnson, being a great OC, might not be a guarantee of him succeeding as an HC, but the need that the Raiders have and the amount of experience Johnson brings in that area, he seems like a great option.
