The Pittsburgh Steelers made history but in an undesirable manner. The Steelers ‘ playoff aspirations are not intact after their recent loss against the New England Patriots. Moreover, after their defeat against the Patriots, Bill Belichick’s team escaped from matching their worst record of the 1992 season, ending with 14 losses and two wins. And to the Patriots’ relief, they clinched their third season victory.  

The Steelers’ head coach, Mike Tomlin, showed optimism toward their playoff qualifications. But their current record, which they lodged after the defeat against New England, signals that their playoff path is thorny.

SportCenter’s Twitter account broke the news of the Steelers making history in an undesirable manner. The Steelers become the first team over .500 to lose back-to-back games to teams with more than eight games under .500 in NFL history. 

Breaking the news, Sportscenter’s Twitter account wrote, “Steelers become the first team over .500 to lose back-to-back games to teams 8+ games under .500 in NFL history.” However, the Steelers are now in the third position of the AFC North division, and their consecutive defeats are raising concerns in their camp.

The Baltimore Ravens are topping the AFC North division, and to qualify for the playoffs, the Steelers will have to win the remaining four games.

Steelers keeping their playoff aspirations alive

Before losing to the Patriots, the Steelers lost to the Arizona Cardinals, another team holding three victories and 10 defeats in the 2023 NFL season. However, in the recent matchup against the Patriots, the Steelers had a home advantage, and assessing the Patriots’ form this season, the Steelers were the favorites to emerge victories. But they fell short by three points, ending the game with a score of 18-21. After the game against the Patriots, the Steelers’ HC, Mike Tomlin, was optimistic about the playoff qualifications.

When questioned about his views of bouncing back from two back-to-back defeats, Tomlin answered: “This is what we do. This is who we are.” Tomlin’s optimism will work as a catalyst in boosting the entire camp’s morale, and they will ensure that their best game is displayed in the next four matchups.
