Since Matt Eberflus’s firing as the HC for the Bears in November, there has been widespread discussion on who the team will look to as a replacement. The Bears just did not have a good season losing a staggering 10 games on the trot before the final game. It is clear the team needs to make some changes and the first thing owner McCaskey will look at is finding an HC that can bring some stability to the team. And they were almost set on Mike Tomlin.

Yep! The Bears were reportedly interested in hiring Steelers HC Mike Tomlin. According to recent reports, they reached out to the Steelers about a potential trade, but the deal didn’t go through. The Steelers aren’t willing to let Tomlin go, and the HC also has a no-trade clause in his contract. Tomlin himself also doesn’t want to leave the Steelers and sent a message to any teams considering a trade, telling them to “save your time.” Well, it seems like the Steelers and Tomlin are committed to staying together for the 2025 season.

Tomlin has been the Steelers HC since 2007 and won the Super Bowl with them in just his second season. The relationship between the Steelers and Tomlin is as good as ever, with even trade requests from other teams not reaching the HC. And it is clear that even if they do, the Steel City’s HC is not interested. Just last season the 52-year-old signed a 3-year extension with the team, and Mike Tomlin is planning to stay for the entirety of these 3 years. But the question still remains: Who should the Bears reach out to?

Well, the two most probable names for the Bears’ job are Mike McCarthy and Ben Johnson. Others, like Arthur Smith and Brian Flores, are also in the mix, but it seems like a two-horse race at this time. Johnson, especially, has been the talk of the town, with the Lions’ OC just vowing everyone with his amazing offensive play. For the Bears though, one can not count McCarthy out, as his interview with the team seems to have gone great.

Is Mike McCarthy on his way to the Chicago Bears?

McCarthy’s sitdown with the Chicago team has reportedly gone better than expected. If the Athletics Adam Jahns is to be believed, McCarthy’s interview with the Bears was very ‘different‘ than the others: “As the Bears’ search continues with more interviews, it’s important to note how different Mike McCarthy’s was: Flew in by the team, had his interview, stayed late and overnight, and then went home earlier today.” It seems McCarthy is going to find a new home soon after his Cowboys’ exit.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Mike McCarthy bring the stability the Bears desperately need, or is Ben Johnson the better choice?

Have an interesting take?

It makes sense as well. The former Cowboys HC is as experienced as they get and is a Super Bowl winner. And while Johnson is certainly a great choice, McCarthy’s experience will be a great help a team with a rookie QB like the Bears. I mean, it can’t be denied that Caleb Williams can see a positive growth under McCarthy’s guidance.

Talking about Williams, the rookie quarterback, had some interesting takes on who the Bears’ HC should be after Eberflus’ exit. The 21-year-old had recently talked about Kliff Kingsbury and how we would love to work with him. The pair has worked together before and Williams definitely feels comfortable working with the Commanders’ OC. For now, though, Kingsbury is concentrating on the Commanders’ game vs Johnson’s Lions.

Be it be McCarthy, Johnson, or anyone else, the Bears need to take a call on their HC soon. They would also be looking to change personnel in other departments and will need an HC who can guide the team and take a call on how to proceed. Will McCarthy be that person? Well, we will have to wait and see.
