Mike Tomlin led the Steelers for years, but after another playoff miss, fans are questioning whether he’s still the right guy. Sure, he won a Super Bowl in 2009, but these past seasons have been underwhelming. Really underwhelming. With the Steelers losing in the playoffs again, Tomlin needs to make changes—and fast.
So, what’s going down? Reports say Tomlin will cut ties with James Daniels and Dan Moore Jr., two O-line starters. Daniels has had his good moments, and Moore’s been solid too, but Tomlin’s ready to move on. As the Steelers finalize their roster, these two won’t be part of it for 2025. And not all, but most of the fans are enraged, because, Why man? They are playing well, so why?

But here’s the real shocker: Tomlin’s let go of two coaches who’ve been performing well. Defensive backs coach Grady Brown and linebackers coach Aaron Curry are both out. Curry helped turn the linebacker group around, getting guys like Cole Holcomb and Elandon Roberts to step up. Brown helped Joey Porter Jr. become a lockdown corner. Yet, Tomlin decided to let them go. Fans are scratching their heads because these moves feel unexpected, especially after the defense performed decently.
Tomlin made these decisions himself. Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo said the late-season coverage issues probably led to these coaching changes. Still, it raises questions, especially since the offensive line has been the bigger problem. Fans are wondering whether Tomlin’s addressing the right issues or just shaking things up for the sake of it.
The Steelers aren’t stopping here. Pat Meyer’s staying on as offensive line coach, despite the struggles, and Gerald Alexander is stepping in as the new DB coach. Alexander’s a solid pick, but fans are unsure if it’s enough. With the Steelers still hunting for a new linebackers coach, Tomlin has to prove that these changes will push the team back into contention. If he wants to see a Super Bowl again, he’ll need to make it happen.
Steelers prep for the next season, Super Bowl loading?
The Steelers have been out here scouting at the East-West Shrine Bowl and Senior Bowl. But now it’s time to get down to business. On Monday, the whole coaching staff will meet up at the South Side facility to talk about who’s staying and who’s getting the boot for 2025. Mike Tomlin’s squad will be breaking down the offense and defense. Deciding which players, like Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Najee Harris, and Jaylen Warren, are staying on the roster.

Some moves are already locked in. As I said before, the Steelers won’t be re-signing Dan Moore Jr. and James Daniels from the O-line. So they’re making room for some new talent when free agency opens on March 12. Plus, the coaching staff will be getting ready for the NFL Combine in Indy. Where they’ll start focusing on who they wanna draft in April. But honestly, everyone’s hyped to know: which QB is the Steelers rolling with for 2025—Russ or Fields? Feels a lot like 2021 when they had to decide whether to bring Ben Roethlisberger back for one last season. This one’s gonna be huge for the squad’s future.

As for the running back drama, it’s getting spicy. Warren’s a restricted free agent, so the Steelers will probably offer him a tender, but Harris is an unrestricted free agent. Tomlin’s always been a fan of Harris, even though his yards-per-carry isn’t as high as Warren’s. The next few days are gonna be wild as they figure out who’s sticking around.
On the coaching front, Mike Tomlin’s already made a couple of moves. He brought Gerald Alexander back as the secondary coach to replace Grady Brown and hired Scott McCurley as the new inside linebackers coach after parting ways with Aaron Curry. It’s not the major shake-up fans were expecting after the Steelers hit a rough patch, but Tomlin’s making the right moves. They might make a few more tweaks, but with the Combine, free agency, and the draft on the horizon, the Steelers are setting up for a major 2025. Let’s see what they do next!
