Is Kirk Cousins really the biggest threat to the Steelers, or is Tomlin overhyping him?

The season is here. And the heat is increasing. Brace yourself for action. Pittsburgh Steelers open their season against the Atlanta Falcons on September 8. Blitzburgh HC Mike Tomlin named the rival QB Kirk Cousins as their biggest threat in the game. But why he said so? We found that for you.

Talking about the opposition, the HC said, “Kirk Cousins is a catalyst for them. They went out and acquired a savvy veteran quarterback who has experience in the system which he employed in Minnesota.” He then talked about his qualities which make him a potential threat, mentioning, “A quarterback that makes good and fast decisions the way that Kirk does it.” The coach has sensed the competition that the QB brings to the game.

2024 will be Kirk Cousins’ 13th NFL season. And he is desperately searching for a Super Bowl. In his last 9 NFL seasons, he has more than 4,000 passing yards except in 2019 (played only 15 games) and in 2023 when he got injured. His passing accuracy is also a staggering 66.9%. The veteran QB has 39,471 passing yards in his career so far. And everyone will deem him a threat because of his wide experience.

Falcons understood his game and brought him on a 4-year $180 million deal in March this year. The only thing that isn’t on his side is his increasing age. The 36-year-old suffered an Achilles injury in week 8 game against the Packers. However, he has worked on his fitness and looked great during the training camp and preseason.

Kirk Cousins’ tactics to push his teammate to the best

Is Kirk Cousins really the biggest threat to the Steelers, or is Tomlin overhyping him?

Have an interesting take?

During the practice sessions in August, the QB pushed his tight end Kyle Pitts in two particular ways. He first focused on the length, telling the TE to keep the ball away from his body. When the quarterback sensed an improvement, he shifted the focus to speed, challenging the tight end occasionally. The team was amazed at his commitment to bring out the best from a fellow player. He, himself, is doing everything he can to be in the best shape.

Kirk Cousins has made drastic changes in his diet. He underwent some bloodwork and found that he has to abstain from gluten and grains such as rice and corn. The QB doesn’t eat the buns of a burger and only eats the insides. The recovery from the injury wasn’t easy. But it has been worth everything.

Falcons made him one of the 4 captains of the team. That is a confidence booster for Kirk Cousins. While he is returning from an injury, he is still rated highly. Will he put a dent in the Steelers in the season opener? It would be an interesting contest to watch.
