Quarterback isn’t the only room Mike Tomlin and Co are looking to sort out before next season arrives. Another position that requires equal attention is the cornerback. See, the Steelers are looking for someone to start alongside Joey Porter Jr. And with the NFL offseason fully underway, there’s a name that could fit ideally into the Steelers back line. One that already has a Super Bowl ring on his resume.
He’s a former third-round pick just released by the Dolphins. Yes, we are talking about none other than veteran CB Kendall Fuller. His availability must have put a few franchises on notice. But the one leading the line should be the Steelers. Fuller comes with heaps of experience and a bit of an underwhelming spell in Miami. He was just signed for a two-year, $15M contract last summer. However, his constant trouble with injuries limited him to just 11 games. Despite limited opportunities to prove his worth, Fuller recorded 50 tackles, seven pass deflections and one fumble recovery.
But it seems like those numbers weren’t enough for Fuller to see out his contract with the Phins. Only 30, Kendall can be an excellent addition to the Steelers D-line. The thing is, Mike Tomlin and Co had Donte Jackson paired with Joey Porter Jr in 2024. However, Jackson didn’t really impress out of those 15 games he started. Only racking 38 combined tackles and five interceptions. Yes, Jackson did have the best season from an interception point of view, but he is also set to hit free agency with little to no clarity over his future.

As for Fuller, in his nine NFL seasons, he has spent time with the Commanders, Chiefs and, of course, the Dolphins. His best years were from 2020 to 23, when he notched over 250 tackles, two fumble recoveries and 10 INTs. And guess what? Two of those interceptions were pick-6. So, Kendall Fuller clearly has the pedigree to play in black and gold. Maybe he is the link that can sort out the Steelers’ cornerback conundrums.
And while the Steelers are still trying to find the best partner for Porter Jr, it seems they have their answer in QB. As per the latest inside scoop, the Steelers are set to go ahead with Russell Wilson in 2025.

Russell Wilson gets greeted with the best possible news on his Steelers future?
Here we are in another episode of Russell Wilson’s saga in black and gold. And today’s latest update is not something Justin Fields fans would like to hear. After much deliberation and constant rumors surrounding Wilson’s imminent exit from Pittsburgh, Steelers writer Mark Kaboly has introduced the latest twist in the story. But this time, his inside scoop is something unexpected. Russell Wilson is going nowhere in 2025. He is here to stay.
Popping up on 93.7 The Fan on a busy Friday afternoon, Kaboly’s thoughts on Wilson’s future must have surely brought some attention. He didn’t give a regular update on the Steelers QB room drama. Kaboly gave the reasoning of the Steelers’ front office to back his audacious claim, “The people at the top of the organization that might make the ultimate decisions are No.3 fans over No.2 fans,” referring to Wilson’s and Fields’ jersey numbers. Well, hearing Kaboly’s latest vote of confidence leaning on Wilson retaining his spot may not surprise those who have heard him before.

Just last week on The Fan itself, Kaboly reiterated how Steelers President Art Rooney II prefers Wilson. “I heard that maybe Art is more in favor of Russ than maybe the rest.” But he didn’t paint a clear picture that time as he did on Friday, adding, “Now, who has last call on this? I don’t know.” See, it’s an open secret that the Steelers top brass do love their 10-time Pro Bowler. They were the first ones to contact Wilson when he became available after his Broncos chapter. The second one to visit him personally after the New York Giants. And also, don’t forget the start of this season—How Mike Tomlin benched Justin Fields out of nowhere with a 4-2 start when Russ came back from his calf injury.
So, there’s a clear favoritism with Wilson over Fields. Maybe it will be Wilson who’s gonna have the last laugh after all. But, BUT!! Nothing’s concrete yet. However, considering where the wind is blowing, Wilson might be coming back in black and gold next season.
