The Steelers are out here making big-brain moves, and the rest of the league better take notes. With the offseason in full swing, Mike Tomlin and the front office are cooking up some serious cap-space magic. Every dollar counts, and Pittsburgh is making sure they finesse the bag just right. But one move, in particular, has fans talking—not just because of the money, but because of what it means for the squad’s future.
Cole Holcomb, who got wrecked with a dislocated knee on November 2, 2023, during a Thursday Night Football game against the Tennessee Titans, is finally back in action. Dude was covering a play when he collided with former teammate Keeanu Neal, and boom—season over. Pittsburgh still clutched a 20-16 dub, but Holcomb’s injury was brutal. Now, after months of rehab, he’s ready to run it back, and the Steelers just restructured his contract, proving they still believe in his leadership. Oh, and they saved $4 million in the process. W move.
The #Steelers and LB Cole Holcomb agreed to a revised contract, clearing $4 million in cap space.

And Cole Holcomb isn’t the only one getting a money makeover. The Steelers are out here remixing contracts left and right. T.J. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Cameron Heyward, Alex Highsmith, and Patrick Queen are all lined up for possible restructures, and if Pittsburgh plays it right, they could free up over $40 million in cap space. With the NFL’s 2025 salary cap hitting a record $279.2 million, the Steelers are stacking cash and plotting big things.
Now, let’s talk about the biggest drama—the QB situation. Both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are free agents, and the Steelers are reportedly lowkey vibing with Fields over Wilson. Fields started hot last season (4-2 record) before getting benched, while Wilson dragged the team to the playoffs but kinda fumbled at the end. With all this extra money, Pittsburgh might finally lock in their QB1 and end the debate.
And they’re not stopping there—free agency is about to get spicy. The Steelers are eyeing running backs, and guess who’s on the market? Najee Harris is one of the biggest names in the 2025 free-agent class. Even though Najee Harris had some issues here and there. If Pittsburgh wants to add some extra firepower to the run game, now’s their chance. With all this cap space, expect them to go full spending mode when the free-agent market opens.
Mike Tomlin and GM Omar Khan aren’t just saving money for fun—they’re setting the squad up for a serious Super Bowl run. They’re locking in their core players, stacking cash, and getting ready to make some moves.
Bottom line? The Steelers aren’t just here to compete—they’re coming for rings. And with all this fresh cap space, you better believe they’re about to go crazy before the season kicks off. Stay tuned.

Steelers are on the clock: Will they lock in Justin Fields or fumble the bag?
Alright, Steelers fans, it’s crunch time. The team is running out of days (and excuses) to lock in Justin Fields before he hits free agency. The legal tampering period starts March 10 at noon, and by March 12 at 4 p.m., Fields is officially up for grabs. If Pittsburgh doesn’t get their act together, some QB-needy team could slide in and steal him right out from under them.
Fields, 26, pulled up to Pittsburgh last March after getting traded from the Chicago Bears. He started hot, leading the team to a 4-2 record, but then got benched for Russell Wilson. Yeah, Wilson got them to the playoffs, but let’s not forget the season ended on a five-game L streak—not exactly clutch. Now, the Steelers gotta pick a side—and word on the street is they’re leaning toward riding with Fields.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Fields is “more likely” to be the Steelers’ QB1 in 2025 than Russell Wilson. But there’s just one little problem—Fields is still not under contract. If they don’t lock him down before free agency, the price could skyrocket, or worse, another team could snatch him up. The Steelers have been dragging their feet, and time is running out fast.
Bottom line? The Steelers better not fumble this bag. If they don’t secure Fields before March 12, things could get messy real quick. Pittsburgh has a chance to lock in their QB of the future—now they just need to make it happen.
