Diontae Johnson is a hot topic in the NFL right now. And the reason for that is on Monday, the man will be placed on the waiver list, and anything may happen from there. There are predictions that many teams will approach the receiver. And one of the rumored teams is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who traded him in the first place to the Ravens. While Johnson is an excellent wide receiver, it appears like Mike Tomlin isn’t paying any attention to the rumors about him. Wait, what?
While this is shocking, it is also true. Although Ian Rapoport stated that the Steelers could pursue Diontae Johnson, the head coach isn’t really interested in him. In an interview, the man stated that he had no plans to bring in a new player. He must deal with what he has in front of him, which is the present Pittsburgh Steelers roster. The HC’s exact words were, “I have nothing to add about someone who’s not in our football team right now.”
With Diontae Johnson soon to be available on waivers, asked Mike Tomlin if he anticipates having an interest in the former Steelers receiver:

Despite the fact that the reports indicated the opposite, this move by Tomlin was not surprising. Consider this: why would the team desire a WR that they originally traded after a thorough discussion? Right? And even if they do go for him, they don’t want to tell anyone.
As if they do not tell anyone, Diontae Johnson may not receive a lucrative contract from another team that is also interested in him. Teams such as the Chiefs and the Chargers are also rumored to potentially pursue the wide receiver.
While all of this is intriguing, the Steelers now have some time to consider whether to pursue Diontae Johnson. If the Ravens had not made the massive snub last week, who knows if Pittsburgh would have already gone after the WR?
Diontae Johnson’s release timing was well planned
Confused? Okay, so following the suspension, the Ravens were expected to release the WR. And when it happened, week 16 had already begun. This definitely indicates that the Ravens did not want to take the risk of releasing the man early. As if they did, who knows whether the Steelers will take him again, and Diontae Johnson will face the team that released him just the day before.

Ian Rapoport reported about this incident too where he explained, “The timing, of course, was interesting for the release, because had they released him a day earlier, maybe his old team, the Steelers could have claimed him and then played him against the Ravens. They wanted to make sure that did not happen”

And maybe this tactic by Baltimore worked as they were able to grab the upper hand in their game versus the Steelers. While the game was equally balanced in 2nd and 3rd quarters, the Ravens crushed in the first and last one. And with that, they were up 34-17 on their home soil. Only time will tell what will happen to Diontae Johnson, so stay tuned.
