Did the Browns expose a major flaw in the Steelers, or was it just a lucky win?

It’s week 12. And Browns have done a major upset by defeating the Steelers by 24-19. The Black and the Gold were 1st (still are) and didn’t expect such an outcome against their divisional rivals at the 4th place. Russell Wilson had 21 of 28 passes with 270 passing yards and 1 touchdown, but even that couldn’t save them from the defeat. Head coach Mike Tomlin was all business during the post-game conference.

While praising the Browns for their preparation, HC blamed his team for being slow in the game and said, “I’d like to start by complimenting the Cleveland Browns man. I thought it took us too long to warm up to the action, you know we were penalized some pre-snap penalties it just wasn’t really sharp. They sacked Russ four times than three in the first half.” Well, now they have time to introspect the loss.

Wilson was rusty against the Brown from the kickoff. He had 4 sacks in the first half. Three of those were done by Myles Garrett. After the 3rd sack, he even mocked the rivals with a fictional crown celebration with his teammate Ogbo Okoronkwo. Their attack, as Mike Tomlin mentioned, was also sharp.

The Browns applied pressure from the start of the game. Though the 1st quarter went pointless for both teams, they were leading the Steelers by 10-3 at halftime. In the 4th quarter, they scored 14 points while the Steelers scored 13 points. With 57 seconds remaining in the game, RB Nick Chubb scored the game-winning touchdown on the snow-covered field. It felt like a movie scene.

This was the first loss for Wilson at the Steelers. But he tried his best to avert it.

Browns divert Russell Wilson’s Hail Mary pass to win

Under Jameis Winston, the Browns looked like a unit. Till the very end, they were sharp and gave all in for a win. The veteran quarterback tried a Hail Mary skyball attempt at 3rd & 1 from 39 yards with 4 seconds remaining in the game. The ball also went to the end zone, but the Browns’ Grant Delpit and Denzel Ward thwarted the attempt before Steelers’ Mike Williams could catch it.

With hands in the air, they celebrated their 3rd win of the season. Mike Tomlin had lost hope by then. However, there isn’t much reason to worry about the loss. They are still at the top of their division. With 8 wins and 3 losses, their playoff chances are pretty strong.

Have an interesting take?

It would be an amazing contest in week 13 as well. Joe Burrow would be up against Wilson. Just like the Browns, the Bengals are also struggling with 4 wins and 7 losses. But the Steelers must have learned their lesson about the teams that are down. They can also derail their campaign. It’s all about the lessons learned.
