“I think the biggest piece of the puzzle, we’ve got to address this quarterback position.” That’s what the Steelers President Art Rooney II thinks as he wants to change his team for the next season. Courtesy? That 5-game losing streak that grabbed major attention for the QB position. But what about the wide receivers? I mean, the Steelers are still lacking a top-notch wide receiver. Of course, they’ve George Pickens on their side, but nah, his attitude is roaring louder than his on-field performance.

Speaking of Pickens, the 23-year-old wide receiver had one heck of a rollercoaster season. There were two sides of Pickens this season. On one side, he recorded nearly 1,000 yards and 59 receptions. And the other? Well, he made headlines for picking fights, ignoring the media, and, of course, those multiple fines. With this attitude, the questions are being raised. Is George Pickens actually the WR1 for the Steelers? That’s where Kirk Morrison comes in.

The former NFL linebacker and the current analyst recently made an appearance on Pro Bowl Live on SiriusXM NFL Radio this Saturday. Well, Morrison believes that despite having a notable season, Pickens isn’t the true wide receiver one for Mike Tomlin’s Steelers. “Is there a number one wide receiver that they truly need to help the quarterback situation that you can trust? George Pickens seems to be a number two, not necessarily a number one. So the Steelers, like I said, they have their work cut out for them this offseason,” Morrison stated.

Honestly, if Pickens isn’t the true WR1, that’s a huge red flag for the Steelers. Sure, he was all set to record another 1,000-yard season, but forget the stats. He’s not exactly a top-tier route runner, has a tough time getting separation, and to top it off, his attitude is a big issue. Whether it is hiding, skipping his usual media day interviews before the wildcard round, or being fined multiple times throughout the season, Mike Tomlin and the Steelers have enough headaches with Pickens’ attitude.

Now, he’s entering his fourth and final season of his rookie contract with the Steelers, and whether the Pittsburgh team wants to extend his contract or not, that will be a big question. On the flip side, if not Pickens, then who’s the true WR1 for the Steelers? Beyond him, they’ve got no real go-to guy. Sure, they had Diontae Johnson, but he got traded to the Panthers, and now he’s chilling with the Ravens.

That left them with Van Jefferson, Mike Williams, and Calvin Austin III. And, if we are not wrong, then Jefferson and Williams are probably gonna hit the free agency this offseason. And Austin III? Just like Pickens, he’s also entering his fourth year with the Steelers this year. All in all, one thing’s clear, the Steelers have many pieces of puzzles besides their quarterback position in the coming offseason.

Pittsburgh Steelers and their quarterback dilemma

Ever since the Ravens crushed their Super Bowl dreams in the wildcard round, the Steelers are suffering from the quarterback dilemma. Weeks after their loss, they finally came to a realization that they can’t pick both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields for the next season. Now one question still remains: who’s gonna be their quarterback 1 in 2025? Looks like they’ve come to a decision, but on one condition.

What’s your perspective on:

Is George Pickens' attitude a bigger problem than his performance for the Steelers' future success?

Have an interesting take?

According to Noah Strackbein, the Steelers reporter, the team is gonna pick Fields and make him their QB1, but only if Fields’ contract is reasonable. But let’s be real. Reasonable contract isn’t the only case behind picking Fields over Wilson. See, Justin Fields kicked off the Steelers season with a bang and recorded 4-2 in their first six games. Plus, he’s younger and much athletic than the veteran Wilson and the Steelers are surely looking for a long-time investment.

On the flip side, the team’s president confirmed that they’re planning to build an O-line that looks the same compared to this season. Honestly, he’s not wrong. The offensive coordinator was having issues while re-creating offenses for Field and Wilson. And they surely don’t want to repeat the same issues again and again.

There you go. The team has enough reasons to pick Fields as their QB1. The Steelers have now their sights set on Fields, but it all comes down to whether the deal makes sense or not. That said, the team now has two concerns: to choose Justin Fields as the QB1 and to find their true wide receiver one, whether it is George Pickens or somebody else.
