The Miami Dolphins have had their fair share of ups and downs when it comes to the quarterback position. Tua Tagovailoa has shown flashes of brilliance. But let’s be real keeping him healthy and on the field has been a bit of a gamble. And last season, when Tua was sidelined, the Dolphins’ backup situation didn’t exactly inspire confidence. Skylar Thompson and Brett Huntley tried to hold the fort, but the results? Let’s just say they weren’t lighting up the scoreboard. Now, as Miami might be looking to solidify its QB depth, the buzz is growing about who might step into that crucial backup role next season.

Mike McDaniel’s team might be in the market for a backup quarterback. And Jacoby Brissett seems like a great fit. No, that’s not just us talking, Bleacher Report is the one dubbing Miami as his perfect landing spot. As per Bleacher Report’s, Kristopher Knox, “A few teams will likely target Brissett as a 2025 bridge option. However, the best move for him could involve a return to the Miami Dolphins. Miami desperately needs a capable and experienced backup behind Tua Tagovailoa, who has a notable history of injuries and concussions.”

Jacoby Brissett’s season with the Patriots hasn’t been one for the highlight reels. The 32-year-old signed a one-year deal to return to New England, but things were not so shiny. With free agency around the corner, you may wonder where he’ll end up next. His recent play may not have turned heads, but as a reliable backup QB, you can say he’s still got a lot of value. Teams that need some stability behind their starting quarterbacks might be taking a serious look at Brissett.

Brissett isn’t a stranger to South Beach. The Pats QB had a stint with the Miami Dolphins back in 2021. Now, with talks of Jacoby Brissett possibly returning as a backup, it could feel like a bit of a homecoming for him. While Miami might be looking at Brissett’s return with some hope, there’s also another, much wilder storyline unfolding. A Fox Sports podcaster has thrown out a pretty wild trade idea for the Dolphins.

Trade Tua Tagovailoa to the Rams for Matthew Stafford

Five seasons in, and still no playoff win, let alone a Super Bowl. That’s been the story of the Dolphins with Tua, and honestly, it’s hard to ignore. So, is Tua just not the right fit for Miami, or is he simply in the wrong place? Guess we need some expert opinions here. You know, sometimes you just get stuck at the wrong places. Let’s make it easier for you. Take Josh Allen, for instance. If the Bills QB had ended up with John Elway’s Broncos, there’s no way he would’ve had the same success he’s had under Sean McDermott leadership.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jacoby Brissett the steady hand Miami needs, or should they gamble on a Stafford trade?

And that’s exactly what Nick Wright from FOX Sports has been mulling over. His bold idea? Well, he’s suggesting that the Dolphins could trade Tua to the Rams in exchange for Matthew Stafford. Yeah, Stafford. The guy who already has a Super Bowl ring. But turns 37 in A couple of weeks. “I might call Miami and say [Matthew] Stafford for Tua. If the Rams are thinking ‘We need to get younger at the position and probably draft a guy, but we don’t want to just immediately spin that roulette wheel.’ If Sean McVay is like ‘Man, I could do better with Tua than Mike McDaniel did,” says the Fox Sports podcaster.

“And if the Dolphins are like ‘Man, we’ve got maybe one more year before Tyreek [Hill] burns the building down. We’re trying to win right now, we have all these weapons,” added Nick. Whether that’s genius or madness is up for debate, but the Dolphins are certainly stealing the offseason chatter right now.  Whatever path they choose, it’s shaping up to be an exciting story to follow.
