The Miami Dolphins are trying to reinforce discipline in their squad. With a pivotal season ahead, Mike McDaniel and the franchise are addressing key roster concerns this offseason to avoid last year’s failure in securing a playoff berth. But are they ready? Especially when the organization is dealing with a couple of key members who might call off their respective NFL careers?
We all know that veteran Calais Campbell has played 17 seasons in the NFL, including a year with the Miami Dolphins. In addition, Terron Armstead is nearing his retirement days, having played 11 seasons in the league. And now, at present, the two might be pondering over hanging up their cleats this time, leaving a big hole in Mike McDaniel’s Dolphins. So, what’s the present situation in Florida’s locker room?
On Monday, Mike McDaniel, via FinsXtra on X, revealed the team’s thoughts on Armstead’s situation. He expressed, “It’s important for me to operate as though he is unavailable to us… he’s earned this opportunity to figure out what he wants to do with his life.” In addition, for Campbell’s future status, McDaniel expressed, “He’s assessing multiple options as a player in the 45th year of his career… he was a very important player to the team last year.” And why not? Campbell had 52 tackles and 5 sacks last season.

No doubt, Calais Campbell is a certified good dude. He is a six-time Pro Bowler and the 2019 Walter Payton Man of the Year. Last year, after signing with the Phins in June, he played in all 17 regular-season games, recording 52 tackles (35 solo), including 5.0 sacks, five pass defenses, and one forced fumble. During his time in 2024, the Dolphins’ defense underwent a significant change. This is also evident in the fact that Campbell and the team have held opponents to around 18.1 points per game. That kind of dominance has fueled the team’s turnaround.
On the other hand, five-time Pro Bowler Mike McDaniel’s key asset, Terron Armstead, played 15 games last season. His high performance was evident, as he ranked third overall among offensive tackles. The 33-year-old is a force when he’s on the field, but staying there has been his biggest challenge. He has battled injuries throughout his career and has yet to play a full season.
Now, the real question is: Does he want to push his body for another year? And for the Dolphins, do they take a chance with rookie Patrick Paul at left tackle, or gamble on Armstead staying healthy? Big decisions lie ahead regarding both veteran players.
On one hand, the team is awaiting the decisions related to Calais Campbell and Terron Armstead. On the other hand, Mike McDaniel revealed the ongoing situation and decision related to their fastest WR, Tyreek Hill.
What did Mike McDaniel say about Tyreek Hill?
The 2024 season ended with speculation about whether Tyreek Hill will return to donning Miami’s jersey the next year or not! It seems now that speculation has ended, at least for now. Tyreek Hill’s uncertain future with the Dolphins started after Miami’s brutal season-ending loss when he dropped a bombshell. “I’m out, bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day I gotta do what’s best for my career because I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.” However, later he tried to walk it back, but now his actions are telling a different story.
In the past 24 hours, his social media has been stirring the pot. He responded with a grin emoji when a fan suggested a trade. Then came the peace signs on a post calling him the biggest draft-night trade candidate. Coincidence? Maybe. But it sure doesn’t feel like it. So, what about Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, who isn’t sweating it?

At the NFL owners’ meetings, Mike McDaniel made it clear—Miami is moving forward with Tyreek Hill in 2025. He trusts that if Hill had something to say, he would address it with him directly. That’s a valid point. But what about his social media antics?

Well, it seems Tyreek is just being Tyreek. That’s how McDaniel sees it, stating, “Tyreek’s known for whatever antics on social media.” In other words, the wide receiver isn’t likely going anywhere, regardless of his frustration with the franchise’s failure to secure a playoff berth or whatever he posts online about the team, the Chiefs, or during press conferences.
What truly matters is that Tyreek Hill hasn’t spoken to McDaniel about a trade—and that’s what the head coach and the entire organization are focusing on. After all, since arriving in Miami, Cheetah has led the NFL with 4,468 receiving yards. But let’s not forget last season—it wasn’t his best. He recorded just 959 yards (his lowest since 2019) and six touchdowns, another career low.
