Mike McCarthy might just take the Bill Belichick route in the future and start coaching college football. Seriously! The Dallas Cowboys are marred with problems on all sides. Injured players, less than ideal management system, and no hopes of making it to the Super Bowl anytime soon. Or maybe we’re leaning too much into it.
Things became even rough for McCarthy since the fans called for him to get fired after the Cowboys lost five straight games prior to the win against Washington. When Stephen Jones was about Mike McCarthy’s future, he praised the coach and eluded the most important question: Will Mike McCarthy be fired after the season?
For the longest time, people thought that Bill Belichick might join the Cowboys. But the 6x Super Bowl winning coach took the job at UNC, which means there are no candidates to fill that spot anymore. Mike McCarthy was elated when he heard the news about Belichick going to Chapel Hill to coach the Tar Heels.

“Wow, that’s great. That’s a beautiful place,” McCarthy said, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer. “No, I’m serious. I think it’s cool, I really do. Coaching is coaching. I’ll say one thing – they’ll be someone to be reckoned with.” We know it’s the NFL. There’s a new speculation every day of the week, but considering how much flak the fans have been giving McCarthy over his coaching, they might be delighted if their Cowboys move on from him.
The Dallas team has finished 12-5 in each of their last three season. However, they are nowhere near that number this season. In fact, if the 5-8 Cowboys lose one more game, they will be out of the playoff hunt. But if Mike McCarthy can make it work, who can?
Apparently, the NFL Insiders are banking their money on Mike Vrabel, former Tennessee Titans coach and a prominent ex-Patriots LB. Vrabel has won three rings with the Pats, safe to say that he knows at least three things to get into the Super Bowl. At the same time, we’re still getting mixed reactions about McCarthy’s position with the Cowboys.
Stephen Jones is out here making it tough for the Cowboys fans to know what’s really going on.
Stephen Jones lauds Mike McCarthy
Of course, the Dallas Cowboys have been evaluating Mike McCarthy since this is his last year with them. Nobody is sure if he’ll get a contract extension with them. In Stephen Jones’ eyes, Mike McCarthy has done a heck of a job. Jon Machota of The Athletic tweeted out a sneak peak of his conversation with the CEO of the America’s team.
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on evaluating the job Mike McCarthy has done: “I think he’s done outstanding. Our guys are playing hard. He’s got them competing. That was a tough game the other night. Guys played hard.

“I think he’s done outstanding. Our guys are playing hard. He’s got them competing. That was a tough game the other night. Guys played hard,” the Cowboys CEO said. He’s witnessing a competitive spirit in his team and tipped his “Hats off to Mike.” Since the Dallas Cowboys have slipped to 5-8, many believe that they might as well prepare themselves for the next season. But they won’t do that.
“You look around the league sometimes and see a lot of teams that start like that and they’re thinking about next year. But Mike has everybody focused on winning each and every game,” Stephen Jones added further. When the reporter pressed the Cowboys CEO for some substantial info about McCarthy, Jones simply replied, “We’re talking about the next game.”

The Cowboys’ management is expert in keeping media in the dark. We’re sure that both Jerry Jones and his son will be bombarded with coaching related questions after the next game against the Carolina Panthers, who nearly got away with beating the Eagles. The Dallas team has a tough road ahead of them as they will be up against Tampa Bay, Philly and Washington after playing against Carolina. Can they hold up?
