Many people predicted the Commanders to win against the Dallas Cowboys. But in a twist of fate, the Commanders, despite having an upper hand, could not stop the Cowboys’ defense and thus, the latter won, 34-26. The Cowboys’ defense looks pretty solid, it’s their offense that has been all over the place this season. And with Dak Prescott out for the rest of the season, there’s even more drama brewing in the locker room. What’s going on?
Well, Dak Prescott had to exit the season in Week 9 after undergoing hamstring surgery, which will keep him out until next season. Considering the amount of losses the team has already seen, this season seemed doomed with Prescott’s absence. For now, Cooper Rush has been filling in his shoes. But then, there is Trey Lance too. At the same time, everyone’s vying for Prescott’s spot as the locker room leader.
With the team’s offense fumbling, there are major questions about their ability to perform well. And HC Mike McCarthy has something to say about that, despite talks of the team ‘tanking‘. As per reporter Nick Harris, “Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy said that he sees the fight in the team right now. With leaders such as Dak Prescott and DeMarcus Lawrence out, he’s seen fight embodied by guys such as Josh Butler, Brock Hoffman and Kemon Hall. Three undrafted guys who have carved roles this season.”

Josh Butler and Kemon Hall are both cornerbacks for the Cowboys. They weren’t drafted, and at first, were kind of neglected, but now they’re showing up big time with a lot of determination and grit to prove themselves. Such is the story of safety Kemon Hall as well. He, too, didn’t get lucky during the NFL Draft and has been passed on by five teams over the last six years. But now, all three of them have become key players in the Cowboys’ defense.

In the absence of experienced players like Dak Prescott and DeMarcus Lawrence, it’s good to see other players doing more than their best. However, the Cowboys’ ship has sunk this season. Even with Dak Prescott on the board, there wasn’t much happening.
What went wrong with Dak Prescott’s team this season?
Jerry Jones’ team has not been their usual selves this season. Last year, they finished first in their division with a 12-5 record. But this season? They’ve barely avoided becoming a joke and meme material. All thanks to Jerry Jones’ usual shenanigans. McCarthy’s guys are in third place in NFC East this year with only 4 wins and 7 losses. So, what went wrong with the Cowboys?
The first and major issue, as we all know, is the crippling offense. Their offense just doesn’t seem to hold up. To add to their woes, injuries have crushed their roster.

Their main man, Dak Prescott, got sidelined, and many key players on defense suffered injuries too. However, Prescott has been pretty average this season, scoring only 11 touchdowns in the 8 games he played. It’s not like he would have changed things for them if he had still been here.
Prescott has previously missed games for injuries on two occasions. The first time was when he experienced a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in 2020 while playing against the New York Giants. It was a season-ending injury but he returned for the 2021 campaign. But in 2022, he had to miss five games after a fractured right thumb.
Tyler Smith, Zack Martin, Jake Ferguson, and CeeDee Lamb have all been on and off with injuries. What’s more, they’ve been terrible at the start, playing like they’re being forced to be on the field. Let’s just say the odds weren’t in their favor. Hopefully, they’ll bounce back strong next season, with Dak Prescott leading the way.
