Jason Kelce‘s retirement rumors have been surrounding the NFL world ever since the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round. The center’s decision to exit from the league subsided with no confirmation surfacing from him. Yet, the ending of his one-year contract deal with the Eagles keeps the factor of him leaving a looming choice.

While multiple possibilities have come forth for the star, the chances of Kelce becoming a free agent don’t seem too far-fetched in the scenario as well. Be it retirement or free agency, either choice would end his 13-year-long run with the Eagles. Keeping these conjectures in mind, the NFL Insider Pat McAfee had an interesting line of thought on the matter.

Will Jason Kelce join his brother in the Chiefs?

On The Pat McAfee Show, the sports writer was discussing the future of Jason Kelce in the NFL, when he threw a wild but intriguing possibility to his panel, saying, “Can Kelce join the Chiefs?” The panelists seemed divided on this question, with some guessing that the center might take a retirement route leading to a TV career.

McAfee expressed that he would be excited if Jason Kelce joined him on ESPN, but continued with the Chiefs’ line of thought, comparing his performance to the Chiefs center, Creed Humphrey. He noted that although “Humphrey is much cheaper than Jason Kelce” but its possible that the Eagles longrunner “might take a discount” to play with his brother, Travis Kelce, in the Kansas City Chiefs.

A panelist contested McAfee’s views by emphasizing Kelce’s loyalty to the Philadelphia team, calling him an “Ohio guy” and that he wouldn’t abandon the Eagles for the Chiefs. He further went on to say that the 36-year-old sported the Chiefs color during the Super Bowl “because he knows that he is done.”

There isn’t anything solid on the speculations about Kelce being a free agent and joining the Chiefs, but the prospect is certainly enticing. It will be a delight for the Kelce clan’s fans to see the two brothers play on the same team and if everything goes well, possibly even helping the Chiefs get the Super Bowl for the third consecutive time. However, this seems like a far-fetched expectation while the retirement conversation is still hanging over the head of the older Kelce brother.

Retirement seems ‘exciting’ but ‘daunting’ to Jason Kelce

The Eagles center opened up about his thoughts on retiring from football, on the Green Light with Chris Long podcast before the Super Bowl. The rumors had first surfaced when it was reported that Jason Kelce had talked to his teammates about the possibility of stepping away from the NFL, following the Eagles’ defeat at the hands of Tampa Bay. Kelce has since never confirmed his decision and is still on the fence about his future in the game.

“It is exciting to think about possibilities — it is exciting to be able to lose weight, feel good, and not physically fight for my life every day,” Jason said. “I think it is also daunting. It is anxiety and at the end of the day, it is the unknown.” Expressing his fears about his exit, Kelce said that he feels there comes a period of depression when one has to enter a new phase of life and said, “The end of one of the things you love most in your life is there, and you have to come to grips with that.”

Kelce has been spending bonding time, traveling with his young daughters and wife Kylie. He was also very active in supporting his brother on the journey to the Super Bowl, often seen with Taylor Swift in the stands. It will be interesting to see if Kelce chooses to retire and spend time with his family, venture into a career in sports talk show television, or become a free agent with the possibility of joining the Chiefs. Either way, it’s going to be an exciting new phase for the loyal Eagles center.
