“The agent is not a factor here or something to worry about. And I don’t know his name. And so my point is…this isn’t about an agent.” Classic Jerry Jones. The man has never been one to sugarcoat things. But in the NFL, where contracts are as much about business as they are about talent, downplaying an agent’s role? That’s a bold move.
And let’s be real—when a star player’s future (and a boatload of cash) is on the line, words like these don’t just disappear. They linger. They stir the pot. And in Dallas? That pot is already bubbling. Let’s cut to the chase. After JJ’s statement came to light, the Cowboys writer Clarence Hill Jr., hit up his official ‘X’ handle and took a jab at the owner.
“Jerry Jones, with blatant disrespect to Micah Parsons agent David Mulugheta: ‘The agent is not a concern here … I don’t know his name.’ Mulugheta is one [of the] best and most respected agents in the NFL. Parsons is wise to have hired Mulugheta,” Hill wrote in his post. And here’s the kicker—soon after that, Parsons re-shared Hill’s tweet and made it clear that he’s not doing any deal without his agent.

Facts!! David is the best and I will not be doing any deal without @DavidMulugheta involved! Like anyone with good sense I hired experts for a reason. There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David! There will be no backdoors in this contract… https://t.co/nxKNSIXLvt

“Facts!! David is the best and I will not be doing any deal without @DavidMulugheta involved! Like anyone with good sense, I hired experts for a reason. There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David! There will be no backdoors in this contract negotiation,” Parsons wrote in his post. Guess JJ’s statement backfired. But let’s not put a bow on this mess.
On Tuesday, Jones addressed Parsons’ forthcoming contract extension, where he admitted that rather than negotiating a deal with Parsons’ agent, he’d been on direct communication with the LB himself. The reason? Well, the owner explained that “The agent doesn’t have one thing to do with what we’re doing when we get on a football field against the team. Micah does. To the degree I’m involved, I do. The people that have something to do with what we do going forward relative to our fans and football are me and the player, not the agent.”
However, Parsons clearly wasn’t having any of JJ’s dismissive take on agents. And why would he? I mean, David Mulugheta is not your ordinary agent—the man currently represents 42 NFL players, including the likes of Deshaun Watson and Jordan Love. And he isn’t just there to handle the paperwork—the man’s a master at securing top-tier deals for his clients.
Now that Parsons is expected to sign a contract extension, no wonder the LB’s going to discuss it with his agent. And he isn’t saying that he doesn’t need a deal. The guy just trusts the experts when it comes to signing a contract extension. The kicker? Well, Parsons has reportedly discussed the contract terms with Jerry Jones already.

Jerry Jones confirmed direct talks with Micah Parsons
This offseason, we’ve already seen some of the jaw-dropping contract extensions. And we aren’t even talking about the quarterbacks here. At this point, the way pass rusher’s salaries are escalating; no wonder Micah Parsons’ contract extension would make him the highest-paid non-QB in the league. And if we believe Dallas News’ Calvin Watkins, Parsons is seeking a $200 million deal from the Cowboys.
To make things more interesting, Jerry Jones confirmed on Tuesday that he has already discussed the contract terms with Parsons. “I’ve spent five-six hours with him (Parsons) myself and had a lot of discussions. Most of the issues are in agreement, and I’ve discussed it all,” he said. BUT!
Despite all the discussions and agreements, the Cowboys are still playing a high-stakes waiting game, leaving Parsons stuck in limbo. And when asked about the delay in his contract extension, Jerry Jones didn’t sugarcoat it, straight-up admitting that “I’d rather pay more and get it right.” But let’s not kid ourselves—every time the Cowboys played the waiting game, it just didn’t work out in their favor.

Just look at CeeDee Lamb. Back in 2023, the highest-paid wideout made $28 million per season. However, by the time Cowboys extended Lamb’s contract, his market value had climbed all the way to $35 million per year. The result? The guy secured a $34 million per season deal. And if the same goes on, don’t be surprised if Parsons’ contract cost the Cowboys millions—just because they’re hesitating for an extension.
