Picture this—your favorite player sticks with one team, year after year. No trade rumors, no switching jerseys for a shot at a ring. Just pure, old-school loyalty. Like Larry Fitzgerald quietly becoming the heart of the Cardinals, or Joe Thomas showing up for the Browns every Sunday, no matter the record. In a league that moves like a carousel, that kind of loyalty? It’s almost poetic.

But in this current era of the NFL, loyalty like this is basically a collector’s item. You’ll find many players around chasing rings, bags, or just a better shot at playing time. Say, Myles Garrett of the Browns. The edge rusher has been in Cleveland for eight years now. But when the team constantly failed to win that Lombardi, the guy requested a trade. Of course, he later signed a contract extension, but the drama behind that? Priceless.

But on the other side of the spectrum, there’s Micah Parsons of the Cowboys. Yeah, that Parsons who’s waiting for his contract extension. The 25-year-old edge rusher has reiterated multiple times that he wants to retire as a Cowboy. The kicker? Well, now the Cowboys’ linebacker and Parsons’ teammate, DeMarvion Overshown, just confirmed that he and Parsons want to retire as Cowboys.

During his appearance on Kay Adams’ Up & Adams Show, Overshown talked about playing with Parsons. “I plan on playing with Micah for years to come. We both want the same thing, to retire as Dallas Cowboys,” he said. On one side, Overshown will enter the third year of his career with the Cowboys. On the other hand, Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie contract and awaiting a contract extension.

But one thing’s for sure: both the defensive giants of the Dallas team are keen to remain in Dallas till their retirement. As for Parsons… well, it’s not the first time we’ve heard about him remaining in Dallas. Take last year’s NFL Honors, for instance. “I love Cowboys nation. I’m extremely grateful to still be a Cowboy, and I hope I’m a Cowboy for life,” Parsons had said. To top that off, he even talked about his career in Dallas.

“I think when you talk about career legacy,” Parsons said last year, “I don’t think there’s a better career you can have when you’re playing for the Star and have a chance to be the best with the star, and retire as a Cowboy… In terms of being here, I want to be here my whole life. I plan on building a house here and being in Dallas forever.” Drafted by the Cowboys in the first round back in the 2021 NFL draft, Micah Parsons has been a cornerstone of Dallas’ defense.

The guy had 13 sacks his rookie year—like, who does that? Fast forward a couple seasons, and he’s sitting on 52.5 sacks in just 63 games. That’s not just good, that’s what even is this guy good. And now? Well, if the reports are any true, the folks out there are suggesting he’s eyeing a $200 million extension. And a few of ’em have reported that he’s going to sign a massive contract soon.

What’s your perspective on:

Micah Parsons wants to retire a Cowboy—will loyalty or money win in the end?

Have an interesting take?

Is Micah Parsons getting a deal before the 2025 season starts?

This NFL offseason for edge rushers is nothing but a gold rush. Think Maxx Crosby’s $106.5 million deal for three-years including $91.5 million guaranteed. And if that wasn’t enough, we have Myles Garrett. The guy snagged a monstrous $160 million deal for four-years. Yeah, that’s $40 million a year. Thanks to that, the rumor mill is buzzing that Micah Parsons (who’s next in line for a massive contract) is eyeing a $200 million contract extension.

To make it more obvious, Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, confirmed that the team’s having a contract talk with Parsons. And if all goes well, he’s going to be the highest-paid non-QB in the league. But the big question: when is he going to sign a deal with Dallas? That’s where ESPN’s Adam Schefter comes in.

Schefter believes that Parsons will get a contract extension before Dallas kicks off their 2025 season. “I would say that, eventually, both sides will figure out that deal and get it done,” Schefter said. “That would be my guess. There’s so much money involved and Dallas is going to want to keep him, he’s going to want to stay.”

“When you’re talking about $40+ million a year, or whatever the number is, why are you ever stepping foot on a football field until that deal is done? To me, they’ll figure out a way to get that deal done because the stakes are just too great not to.” With a little under five months left until the new season kicks off, it’s starting to feel like that the Cowboys are gonna lock up Parsons with that extension.

And if we’re not wrong, Jerry Jones has confirmed that he’s already finalized the contract terms with Parsons. At the end of the day, the contract extension is almost confirmed. The main question is: when?
