The prices of the top-tier non-QBs this season are skyrocketing, thanks to Maxx Crosby and now Myles Garrett. This off-season, it’s like the players are saying, ‘You want to keep me? You better have my money.’ Just like Myles Garrett, who asked for a trade from the Browns back in February -fast forward to now, and the Browns made him stay for $123.5 million. Now, there’s another top defensive star in the league who is out there celebrating other people’s contracts while his own is up in the air. Yes, that’s Micah Parsons we’re talking about here.

Everyone out there is getting their contract extensions done. And Jerry Jones is just making things complicated with all the delays. Well, that’s not a very strange thing -it’s Jerry being Jerry. So, as the Myles Garrett contract takes the NFL world by storm, everyone’s weighing in on how it would change the situation for other top non-QBs in the league. Enter former Cowboys WR Michael Irvin, who thinks that Jerry messed up big time by not offering an extension to Parsons before.

Irvin believes that now that Garrett’s contract has created a shift in the market. The Cowboys lost the opportunity to sign Micah at a lower rate. The top non-QBs earlier would wind up with a $34-35 million deal, like Nick Bosa and Justin Jefferson. But now the story is different. “Micah can go in and say, ok, if I don’t get to the forty-one. You can get me closer to… like he always talks about the guaranteed number,” said Michael Irvin. He shared his two cents on the ‘Speak on NFS1‘ show.

Micah is in the final year of his $17.08M deal, with an average annual salary of $ 4.27 M. But now, that could jump straight to $40M per year. But it’s the Cowboys we’re talking about. It’s no surprise to anyone in the NFL how things work in the Jerry Jones franchise. So, not everyone thinks that Micah can ask, and even if he asks, Jerry would make him the highest-paid non-QB.

Will Jerry Jones open the vault for Micah Parsons?

To me, having $40 million and being chipped every play and slid into three, four people, that doesn’t sound too fun to me. So, to me, it’s about keeping people that can make a difference.” That’s what Micah had to say when he was asked about being the top-paid player in the league. And that’s what Michael Irvin also pointed out -that the Cowboys’ LB has said before that he does not care about the money.

So, if this was the case, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ front office should have wrapped up this deal earlier. But no, as Mike Florio would put it, “We know how the Cowboys like to do business -they drag their feet and drag their feet and drag their feet until the last minute.” Well, y’all know their style.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jerry Jones risking the Cowboys' future by delaying Micah Parsons' contract extension?

Florio also pointed out that Garrett’s contract could work against Parsons if he demands more money from the team. On Monday, Mike dropped by the Rich Eisen Show and chatted about Garrett’s hefty contract situation. The PFT host noted that while it can work in favor of Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase.

It might not be the same for Micah. “Duke Tobin, the Bengals’ director of player personnel, said at the combine that Ja’Marr Chase, their star receiver who won the Triple Crown this past year in catches, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns, will be the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league.” So Chase will now be looking between $40 to $50 million, as Garrett is getting $40 million per year.

And as for Micah, Jerry might not agree to pay him this much. In that case, they might trade him, and in return, considering his high value, they could get multiple draft picks from other franchises. Like they did in 1989 with their star RB Herschel Walker. All in all, Myles Garrett has created quite a turmoil in the NFL town, and nobody is prepared for what’s coming ahead.
