Still entangled in the contract extension drama, Micah Parsons is stirring the pot. Jerry Jones’s conflict with Micah’s agent David Mulugheta is out in the open, though. Well, that’s a story we’ll see on another day. But this Saturday, the Cowboys’ superstar LB is making waves in terms of his former college.

This off-season, Micah Parsons is spending some time on the basketball court. After watching a thrilling college game between Duke and Houston, he took to X to praise Duke’s performance—despite their loss, led by standout Cooper Flagg. Currently ranked first in the Atlantic Coast Conference, Duke earned a shoutout from Parsons, who posted, “Cooper Flagg!!! Let’s go, Duke!!” But he didn’t stop there.

A fan chimed in on Micah’s post, saying, “Of course you’re rooting for Duke, you just get more and more unlikable every day.” As many know, Micah played for the Penn State Nittany Lions—just like Saquon Barkley did from 2015 to 2017. So, for a true Penn State alum, cheering for Duke came as a surprise to that fan.

But if you thought Micah ignored the comment, you’d be wrong. He replied, “Bro. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been a Duke fan my whole life!” No harsh words, just a calm clapback that somehow still stirred more drama. So, why did a lifelong Duke fan choose Penn State for college? Good question. The 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft actually answered that in a recent tweet.

Reason why Duke fan Micah Parsons chose Penn State

Before his college days, Micah had two top offers among many—one from Alabama and the other from Penn State, a school known for producing great football talent. Interestingly, the paragraph mistakenly associates Nick Saban with Penn State, but Saban is actually the legendary coach at Alabama. Despite Alabama’s prestige, Micah chose Penn State. Why? The obvious reason: it was closer to home. But Parsons gave another reason—and it was way more hilarious.

Have an interesting take?

While talking about it on his podcast The Edge with Micah Parsons, alongside friend and Ravens star Derrick Henry, Micah revealed another reason for choosing Penn State over Alabama. He said, “This is the God honest truth,” explaining to Henry that the weather in Alabama was just too hot for him. He added, “So treacherous, there’s no way in hell I could survive up here.

Pretty hilarious, right? But seriously, those were his real reasons—no deep love for the school, no admiration for past players. Just a personal choice, which honestly seems fair. Athletes are human too, and sometimes it comes down to comfort. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t have a strong emotional bond with Penn State.

Or who knows? Micah might’ve just been trolling when he sarcastically said he loves Duke more than Penn State. Even though Duke lost that game 67–70, Micah still managed to go viral—sharing the spotlight with the real star of the night, Cooper Flagg, who dropped 36 points.
