When the Kansas City Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill, it came as a surprise to all. The wide receiver had spent six seasons with the team and helped them win the Super Bowl in 2020. While the Chiefs members, including Mahomes and coach Reid, wished for Hill to stay, it ultimately came down to the contract that made things out of their hand.
Hill struggled to come on common grounds with the Chiefs, and ultimately, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, did what was best for him and requested for a trade. The WR was traded to the Miami Dolphins for a record sum of $72.2 million, making him the highest-paid wide receiver in the history of the NFL. Now, Hill recently opened up about his own side of the story and what was it that drove him to make the switch to Miami.

In a recent appearance in The Pivot Podcast, Tyreek Hill was asked the reason behind his move to the Dolphins. Calling it a “family decision,” the wide receiver quoted the ample opportunities in Miami as the primary reason for his switch. He also mentioned his off-field plans as part of the reason.
Hill had revealed earlier that he plans to retire when his contract with the Dolphins comes to an end in 2025 and pursue other projects. So the former Chiefs star feels Miami is a good spot for him from an off-field aspect as well. As for the winning prospects in his new home, Hill was confident from the beginning.
“There’s so- many opportunities in Miami, especially if we start winning. ‘Cause I was looking at it automatically like look we going to win, you know, regardless, and that’s going to bring up the momentum of just everything that – I’m trying to get accomplished outside of football so that- was really how the decision was made.”
Moreover, Hill said that nothing was lacking from the salary aspect either. When he got the tag of the ‘highest-paid WR’ ever, he was completely one with the decision. “The money was already good,” Hill said, “Once they [Miami Dolphins] said highest-paid receiver, I was like, yeah lock that in.” Further talking about his future, Hill explained what ultimately was another reason to edge him toward his current team.

Tyreek Hill’s off-field plans convinced him to switch to Miami
Ever since his draft in 2016, Hill had played with the Kansas City Chiefs and emerged as one of the best wide receivers in the league. So when he was up for trade-in, a lot of teams had his eyes on him. He finally went to Miami with a four-year deal worth a record $120 million. Apart from the obvious reason being the lucrative contract, Hill leaned towards Miami as he believed it would help in his non-football projects.
Hill has plans to retire after the 2025 season when his contract also ends. The WR had revealed that he wants to get into the business side on the Sports Radio 810. He wishes to get into gaming specifically and is working on creating his own esports team. He plans to assemble a crew of content creators and people from sports. So, with Miami, Hill felt he would get ample exposure and opportunities to pursue his retirement plans.
