Mazi Smith starred for the Michigan Wolverines for four seasons before being picked by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2023 NFL draft. However, even after his departure, he is back in the news for Michigan due to an unintentional incident involving $20K+ worth of shoes and a defensive playbook from the 2022 Wolverines team.
The 6-foot-3, defensive tackle apparently discarded his storage unit which contained a Legos collection, Wolverines playbooks as well as thousands of dollars’ worth of shoes and other apparel, according to a man who claims to have bought Smith’s Ann Arbor storage unit in an auction.

NFL insider Dov Kleiman shared a viral TikTok video of Mazi Smith’s storage unit, which as auctioned off on his official X account. The reporter tweeted the reason, “#Cowboys DT Mazi Smith missed making payments on his storage unit, so they auctioned off his locker. Included were Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan playbook, player-exclusive cleats, and other expensive items.”

A person on TikTok with the username “@VBroadwayFinds” is a reseller who buys storage units and sells their contents. In a video on TikTok, he shared that he bought a unit mainly for Michigan Football gear but also discovered a defensive playbook from the 2022 Wolverines. In the video, he said, “I paid $1,880 for this storage locker, I’m guessing, because most people saw this giant gun safe in the front.”
“But what I saw was this cleat in the back, and it’s a Michigan Jordan cleat. These are player-exclusive tweets and they sell for between six- and seven-hundred dollars, and that was just the tip of the ice berg for this unit,” he continued.
The unit contained other items like Legos, a Louis Vuitton toiletry bag worth $1000K, high-end clothing, accessories, and a considerable amount of Michigan gear.
All in all, the auctioned-off contents included $600 shoes, a $1000 LV bag, $800 Travis Scott Jordan 1, Exclusive Michigan Jordan Lows each for $1,000, Michigan Game worn clothing, shoes are worth $20K+ according to @VBroadwayFinds who won the auction, and $12,000 solid Gold sunglasses cartier receipt.
Smith, a well-known Legos enthusiast, also had boxes of the toy blocks loaded into several containers. Memorabilia includes Michigan playbooks from the team’s John Harbaugh era before the title-winning coach left for the Los Angeles Chargers earlier this month, as well as several pairs of game-worn cleats.
As per the reseller, he claimed to have paid $1880 for the unit, suggesting its content surpassed that value. He even expressed his surprise and said it was, “one of the craziest storage units I’ve ever purchased.” Even though Broadway did not mention Smith by name while revealing the contents of the unit. He did mention that the unit was owned by a former Michigan player who was picked in the first round of the 2023 draft. And as fans may know only one Wolverine was picked and that was Mazi Smith.

The Cowboys have hopes from Mazi Smith?
When the Cowboys drafted their first-round picks in the form of CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons, they did a great job as both became instant stars. However, that wasn’t the case with Mazi Smith. As per the stats, ahead of their playoffs, Smith “only had half a sack and five tackles for loss in two seasons as a starter.” However, the franchise still has full faith in him. Coach Mike McCarthy, in an early interview of the pre-playoff game, said about Smith that he “think there’s definitely plays he can learn from as far as pad level.”
Owner Jerry Jones, further claimed, “Mazi has shown us everything that we’ve wanted when we took him. He does need to continue his development. … We’re gonna need Mazi and we’re gonna need him in the middle there. They’re gonna come at us in the run game in the future.” Jones even compared him to legendary lineman Larry Allen, calling Smith having some “superhuman strength.”
