Los Angeles has had its fair share of battles with nature, and wildfires are one of the city’s toughest enemies. Year after year, these fires rage through the dry hills, forcing thousands of people to evacuate their homes. The constant threat and devastation seem endless, creating a grim reality for residents who just want to find some peace amidst the chaos. For Matthew Stafford‘s wife, Kelly Stafford, this feeling of dread hit home once again. She’s no stranger to the horrors of wildfires, having seen the devastation firsthand. But this time, the intensity of the situation was different, and it left her visibly shaken.

On Wednesday, Kelly Stafford shared a video on Instagram that hit home for anyone living in LA. In the clip, she’s showing the wildfires burning just a few miles from her home. While the flames aren’t visible, the thick smoke is billowing into the sky, turning it from white to a dark, ominous grey. It’s a chilling sight, one that seems all too familiar to locals who’ve been through this before. As she shared the video, Kelly wrote, “This just does not seem to end. Stay safe y’all.”

Since Matthew Stafford made the move from Detroit to LA, his wife, Kelly, has been open about the struggles of settling into California. She often talks about it on her podcast, The Morning After. Back in December, she shared a wild story about a mountain lion spotted roaming outside her kids’ school, which adds to the stress of adjusting to a new place. But lately, it’s the wildfires that have been hitting her hard. The LA fires have been heartbreaking. It’s tough watching so many people lose their homes to the flames, while the once breathtaking blue skies and tall palm trees turn into grey, smoke-filled skies with burnt trees.

The mom of three also took a moment to share an update on Matthew’s injury after the Rams’ tough loss to the Eagles in the Divisional Round.

Kelly praises Matthew Stafford as the season ends for the Rams

This season, it looked like Matthew Stafford could pull off a repeat of his 2021 Super Bowl win. After leaving the Lions, he became a hero, taking the Rams to a Super Bowl LVI victory in his first year with them. It seemed like Stafford might grab another ring, but alas! The Eagles crushed those hopes on Sunday. And Matthew had to let go of that dream for the third straight season. After the loss, his wife Kelly shared an emotional note for her husband, which sparked retirement rumors.

And now, Kelly’s shared another painful update. No, it’s not about Matthew retiring, but it’s still hard to hear. On her podcast The Morning After, Kelly opened up about how Matthew kept pushing through a brutal injury this season. (Yes, you read that right, he played through cracked ribs.) Sharing the link to her podcast on her Instagram story, Kelly wrote, “A silver lining to the season being over is I can share a little more about what a bad— my husband is. Toughest out there.” It all started in week 15 against the 49ers. “He got hit in San Fran. I remember watching it, he looked over to the sidelines and said something, and that night came home, and was like, ‘Yeah, think I cracked my ribs.’ I was like, ‘What?’”

Matthew Stafford playing through cracked ribs—heroic or reckless dedication to the game?

But here’s the kicker, Matthew didn’t let anyone in on it. He just carried on like nothing was wrong, grinding through his routine. (Honestly, if you didn’t know better, you’d think he was fine.) “And he did, he cracked four ribs, but just didn’t really let anyone in to really know much about it. Continued his everyday process like nothing was wrong, and would come home and be miserable,” added Kelly.
