HC Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies have now officially been eliminated from the NCAA tournament. Their 77-75 loss to the Florida Gators shattered hopes quite early for them. However, despite winning multiple national championships, Hurley failed to handle the taste of defeat well. As his team walked off through the tunnel, the head coach threw up whatever was bubbling inside for the officiating crew to mop up. But on the other hand, the crew arguably cost them this game. “I hope they don’t f— you like they f—– us. I hope they don’t do that to you, Baylor.” Although his intentions were pure for his team, the HC didn’t like the crew’s decisions that arguably favored the opposition. Nevertheless, this behavior reminded a former NFL QB of Matt LaFleur!

As officiating has become a talk of the town for the NFL community, Kay Adams picked up the chance to throw a question to Dan Orlovsky on the same topic. She asked the ex-NFL QB about who he thinks is like Dan Hurley in terms of head coaches. To which, the 41-year-old gave an interesting answer.

On Sunday, during the Up & Adams show, Dan Orlovsky said, “There’s a little bit of (Nick) Sirianni there, for sure, just with the kind of the ‘brash, in your face at times’ personality. Maybe Sean Payton from years ago. Sean’s maybe mellowed out just a little bit. I got to go by division. That’s how my mind goes.” However, while naming some more intense coaches on the field, he didn’t miss recalling Matt LaFleur.

Continuing his comparisons, Orlovsky said, “I’m trying to think if there’s an NFL coach that’s a little bit more intense on the sidelines. I got to go by division, that’s how my mind goes. AFC East, no, no one really stands out. AFC West, no one stands out. Maybe [Jim] Harbaugh. Matt LaFleur if he is facing the Bears because of some of the comments, but I think there’s a decent amount of coaches that are pretty good with that.”

While facing off against the Bears four months ago, Matt LaFleur had clapped back at Chicago’s antics and officiating calls. At that time, Matt Eberflus alleged improper actions by the Packers against Chicago’s long snapper. LaFleur too didn’t hold back. Shortly after the win over their rival, he said, “I’ve seen a lot of plays where I thought a penalty should’ve been called, and it didn’t happen. That’s why you don’t leave it in the hands of the officials.

His controversial comments came as a highlight that Green Bay’s team doesn’t rely on questionable officiating calls to make game-changing plays. Hence, Orlovsky thinks Matt LaFleur and the other coaches he named can be called the Dan Hurleys of the NFL. No doubt, we have seen Matt LaFleur melting down many times on the sidelines. While we are discussing this, how can we forget the coach’s aggressiveness toward the Detroit Lions fans last season?

Shut the f— up.” On Thursday Night football in the first week of December, things got spicy between Matt LaFleur and the Lions fans. The Green Bay Packers head coach was visibly angry and frustrated with the rival team’s fans as they had it out for him. However, later the refs had to intervene to stop the on-field argument. So, be it on aggressive calls, officiating, or hatred by fans, LaFleur is a name that comes to mind when short-fused coaches are being discussed. We can expect more headlines in the upcoming season as he has some tough new rivals to compete against.

What’s your perspective on:

Are fiery coaches like Dan Hurley and Matt LaFleur what sports need, or do they cross the line?

Have an interesting take?

What if Matt LaFleur’s anger meets the aggressive callers of the league?

Now as it’s somewhat clear that Matt LaFleur doesn’t shy away from letting loose on the field or in press conferences, things might not be so easy for him moving forward in 2025. Although his meltdowns pose as a warning for the NFL coaches, there might be a couple of them who can give it back in equal measure or take advantage of such situations.

Both Ben Johnson and Dan Campbell are known for emphasizing a “some tough, some gritty, (and) some dirty” approach for their offensive line, per Johnson himself. So, while playing against the Lions and the Bears this time, Matt LaFleur could be seen just as angry as Dan Hurley was, given their aggressive nature while making calls.

It would be a double challenge as Johnson has now become the HC of Chicago. And they, along with the Lions, especially after that fan fight moment, are going to be looking to rile up divisional rivals Green Bay in 2025. Let’s see what’s in store for the Packers in 2025, and how Matt LaFleur handles the situation.
