The much-awaited NFC North matchup is on the horizon as the NFL regular season is about to culminate. There’s too much pressure to stay on top as the Motor City hosts the Cheeseheads on Thursday Night Football. However, Matt LaFleur’s Green Bay Packers already have an edge over the Detroit Lions as they got their hands on the opposite team’s leaked codes.
Turns out, Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs accidentally leaked codes for drop-back protection on social media. However, it’d take more than that for Dan Campbell to break a sweat. Obviously, the Packers HC saw those codes but thought they were “overrated.” And just like Dan Campbell, the Packers head coach was nonchalant about the information he received.
Does Matt LaFleur care about the Lions’ leaked info?

It’s all about mind games now. Will the Lions switch it up before the game? That remains to be seen. Despite having that crucial information at the tip of his fingers, LaFleur believes that it won’t give him a “real competitive advantage.” On that note, the Packers might not be taking the leaked codes seriously because they have better resources to study the Lions.
“I’m sure our guys aren’t going to sit there and study every code word they have in their offense. I mean, you can get this stuff in the TV copies. I mean, there are certain things you can pick up off the TV copies. That’s why most teams, I would say probably every team in the league listens to what they’re putting out there as well as what the opponent is putting out there and try to piece it together,” LaFleur said in Tuesday’s press conference.
LaFleur is not wrong, though. Teams have access to more in-depth stuff. Players have their iPads to study at home and the Packers might already be aware of what protections the Lions are going to run. They just don’t know the code names. In the end, it all boils down to playing fundamental football. It’s like you’ve already studied to ace an exam, but still carry a cheat sheet with you, just in case.
Has Dan Campbell lost the edge?
Most likely not. Detroit is on a 10-game win streak, so Campbell is not worried. In fact, he pulled Jahmyr Gibbs’ legs after the leak. On the outside, the matter doesn’t appear to be too serious because the Detroit head coach doesn’t “really give a crap.” How embarrassing would it be if a team as explosive as the Lions lost because of a bunch of random words stringed together?

“If we’re going to lose because of code words then we’re not good enough anyway. So, I think we’ll just post the whole fricking playbook out there and every code word we’ve got. And it doesn’t matter. It’s not going to hurt us, it won’t affect us and it’s all good,” Dan Campbell admitted.
The Detroit’s RB got traction when he posted a video of his teammate Jermar Jefferson. He was standing in front of a board that had Detroit’s protection call listed. Campbell initially didn’t want to divulge the information but changed his mind later. Maybe what the world saw is just the tip of the iceberg.

Surely, Campbell and LaFleur have more tricks in their sleeves than memorizing a bunch of codes. The mind games are on now.
