The Packers wrapped up the 2025 NFL draft with some important picks. From WR Matthew Golden in the first round to CB Micah Robinson and OT John Williams in the last round, Matt LaFleur‘s team is making headlines. However, as they have solved their offensive and defensive problems, the franchise’s head coach has dealt with another issue and shut down the rumors around Jordan Love‘s veteran CB.
A week ago, CB Jaire Alexander‘s 2025 and 2026 salary, that is, $34.3M, was a problem for the Packers, per rumors. The rumors were swirling down in the city that the Packers might trade their 2018 season’s 18th overall pick, Jaire Alexander. But HC has clarified through the media that the CB will be available at practice in the voluntary workouts. According to his contract, he should earn a $700,000 workout bonus for the 2025 season instead of missing the workouts.
While giving the update, NFL reporter Rob Demovsky wrote on his X/Twitter that Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Jaire Alexander took part in the opening of the voluntary offseason program last week, which was virtual because of the draft being in town. Players will be back here on Monday with the rookie minicamp to follow next weekend.

Well, Alexander faced a lot of injuries on his NFL journey. And that pushed the Packers to think about CB’s trade possibilities. In the 2024 season, Alexander missed two games due to a groin injury. In the 2023 season, he hurt his shoulder in week 8 against the Rams. The list goes on. Since entering the league, injuries have sidelined Alexander every season except 2019. So, that led to rumors around his trade possibilities.
However, his cap hit and base salary were major concerns. According to Jaire’s four-year, $84,000,000 contract, the cornerback (CB) is set to earn a base salary of $16,150,000. Moreover, the Packers would have had to absorb $24,636,355 of his cap hit. No team would take on that amount for a single player without significant trade-offs.
While the franchise was reportedly considering a trade involving the CB, Jordan Love sent an indirect message to the front office regarding Jaire Alexander. Let’s dive in.

Appearing on the Up and Adams show, Jordan Love addressed the situation, saying, “Ja’s got his own world going on. I’m going to let him handle his own business and see what’s going on. But that’s my guy right there.” Love emphasized Alexander’s importance to the team, adding, “He’s definitely a player we need back — just the play style he plays with and who he is on the field. That’s a guy we need to have around. So, we’ll see what happens.” With those comments, Love made it clear where he stands amid the ongoing trade rumors surrounding the star cornerback.

While praising Alexander, Love also noted, “He’s a character. That’s a guy, you never know what you’re going to get. With Ja, he’s always someone who interacts with everybody on the team. He jokes around, but he also has that serious side to him as a competitor.” Alexander, who has been with the Packers since being drafted in 2018, showed flashes of his talent during the 2024 season, recording 15 solo tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass defenses.
However, injuries limited him to just five games. His performance remained strong when healthy, but setbacks forced him to wait patiently for opportunities.
