Let’s rewind for a bit: Exactly one year ago, the Packers were the youngest team in the NFL, led by none other than their first-year starter, Jordan Love. And just like this year, the Packers clinched the postseason as a No.7 seed out of the NFC. They took on NFC East Champions, the Dallas Cowboys, and simply blew them apart 48-32. Love posted a 99 QBR while throwing 3 TDs. But this year, let’s just say things were quite different for the Packers QB.
This time, the stage was the same (wildcard), but the performance—horrendous. It was a complete blood bath for Love, who didn’t score a single TD but threw not one, not two, three interceptions. So it was probably a brutal awakening for the second-year starter that things aren’t always easy here in the NFL. But watching Love grow as a player in Green Bay, Matt LaFleur only had one message for him. And that could probably help Love grow as a starter in the league.
LaFleur wants Love to be a “vocal leader” and be more open about what he wants from his locker room. “I think he can really demand a lot because the locker room respects him. He’s a grinder. He’s one of the guys. I think that’s one of his best qualities. But when things aren’t quite right. I think he can voice that, as well,” as per the Packers’ HC. Now, besides talking about what quality Love could work upon before the 2025 season comes along.

Matt LaFleur says next step for Jordan Love is to grow as a “vocal leader” in #Packers locker room: “I think he’s taken steps to get there, but he can really demand a lot. Because the locker room respects him.”

Matt credited his $220M QB for the improvement he has shown in avoiding sacks this season. In his first season as a starter in Green Bay, Love absorbed 30 sacks. But this season was a testament to Love’s capability to improve, as he finished the 2024 season getting sacked only 16 times in his 16 starts. However, moving on from the positives of Love’s second season as Green Bay’s starting signal caller. There was one thing that Matt Lefleur urged Love to improve upon.

Matt Lefleur exposes Jordan Love’s weakness after 3 costly interceptions to end 2024’s season
See, the Packers had a good run going in their offense just a few months back. They had recorded 30+ points in five straight games while winning 4 of them. At one point, their record stood at 11-4. But for some reason, their offense suddenly collapsed, and ended up losing whatever momentum they had built in those games in a flash. Green Bay only managed to score 25, 22, and 10 in their next three games to finish their season in Philly. And you know what? That game in Philadelphia summed up what Jordan Love is possibly lacking, as per his head coach, “consistency of footwork.”
Well, the Packers head coach tried to point out Love’s lack of rhythm and timing in his passes, which proved costly as he threw 3 interceptions. His first one came in the second quarter when he tried to find Dontayvion Wicks. But he was unable to link up with his receiver as Eagles veteran CB Darius Slay picked him off. Then, his next one was probably meant for Malik Heath. However, him not completing his route led to an easy interception by Zack Baun.

And finally, his third interception came late in the game. When a defensive pass interference wasn’t called upon Baun on Bo Melton in the red zone. This set up Quinyon Mitchell for a game-ending interception, which sent the Packers home. So, Jordan Love clearly has a lot to learn from 2024. If he does become that vocal leader that Lafleur has urged him to and tries to improve on his weaknesses. Who knows, maybe he will come back strong next season and probably lead Green Bay deeper into the playoffs.
