Well, well, well… The Bears couldn’t roar to the victory against the Patriots even when all the on-paper ‘Ws’ favored them. Yikes, that sting! Now, they sit at 4-5 after that loss (and three on the spin!). So, HC Matt Eberflus has made an important decision on Caleb Williams’ future as QB1.

No surprises here—Eberflus is sticking with Williams as the starter. “Caleb is our starter,” he confirmed on Monday. But he hinted at upcoming changes, saying he’s “in the process of” evaluating the rest of the team to help turn this season around. Sounds like everyone’s seat just got a bit warmer.

But here’s what really has fans buzzing and internet tweeting (literally): a viral clip of Williams showing some serious frustration with OC Shane Waldron. There’s some major disconnect brewing in Chicago. Anyone could read the body language as the rookie QB lifted his eyebrows, rolled his eyes, and shook his head on the sideline during the latest loss. The message? Loud and clear—even if the coaches didn’t hear it.

As for the problems under center, the pressure keeps mounting on Williams. And why not? Chicago has failed to record a TD in consecutive games. Sounds odd, right? Because it is. They have not done/matched that feat since 2004. So, you can understand why the fans have put the rookie under the microscope.

Caleb Williams takes responsibility

Baptism by fire, living up to its name. Right before the bye week, it seemed like the Bears’ No. 1 pick was finally getting the hang of life in the NFL. There he was, Caleb Williams, finding his rhythm, and so the fans started to believe. But…fast forward to now, and it’s a different story. Chicago’s offense has hit a serious slump just as they’re heading into the toughest part of their schedule.

Fresh off the 19-3 loss to the Patriots—who’ve had their own struggles this season—the struggles are glaring. With a makeshift O behind him, the Pats took advantage of it, sacking Williams nine times—with only 120 passing yards to show. Yikes! The Bears went 1 for 14 on third down, ending the day with a measly 142 yards of offense. Not exactly what you’d call a statement game.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Caleb Williams the right choice for QB1, or should the Bears explore other options?

Have an interesting take?

To his credit, Williams isn’t ducking responsibility. “We have to do a better job, starting with us, starting with myself,” he admitted. “When you’re good at situational ball… you’re a tough team to beat.” That’s the kind of accountability you want to see. But it doesn’t change the fact that Chicago’s offense has put up only 27 points over the last three games.

With matchups against Green Bay, Detroit, and Minnesota on the horizon, Williams knows they need to turn things around—and pronto.
