The Bears’ winning streak ended on Sunday, when they lost 18-15 to the Washington Commanders. The Washington Commanders’ defense locked things down, keeping the Bears scoreless for most of the game. It took a while for them to establish their momentum. Even though they were having a tough time they got themselves a 15-12 advantage with under a minute on the clock.
The Chicago team almost won the game until Jayden Daniels snatched victory right from under their noses. The QB’s thrilling 52-yard Hail Mary pass to Noah Brown clinched an exciting 18-15 win for the Washington Commanders.
ESPN’s football analyst Dan Orlovsky didn’t hold back on Get Up! He called Eberflus “dumb” and went on to say that if he were the team owner, he’d seriously reconsider whether Eberflus is even qualified to be an NFL head coach. “If he says those 15 yards didn’t matter, those 15 yards cost you the game every bit as much (0:46) as the Hail Mary play at the very end.”

Post the loss, fans are not impressed with head coach Matt Eberflus’s coaching choices. Even after two pretty disappointing seasons, the Bears’ ownership remained confident in his mentorship. It seems like, after the recent loss, he cannot escape scrutiny. In his defense, Eberflus said, “You’re defending touchdown there. And them throwing the ball for 13 yards or 10 yards, whatever that is, doesn’t really matter. It’s always going to come down to that last play.” Fans didn’t hold back, calling out the Bears’ head coach for what they see as more of the same — dodging accountability after a tough loss.
Social media blew up with questions for the 54-year-old coach, with fans wondering why he didn’t do a better job restructuring the defensive line when he still had three timeouts left. As Jayden Daniels secured the win for his team, Bears QB Caleb Williams couldn’t hide his disappointment about letting the game slip away at such a critical moment. Even though Williams played well, he felt like he could’ve done more on offense.

The perfect planning of Jayden Daniels’ Squad

Did Matt Eberflus's questionable decisions cost the Bears a crucial victory against the Commanders?
Have an interesting take?
What seems like a totally lucky situation is, in fact, an example of careful analysis and perfect planning. It looked like Dan Quinn’s squad had really nailed their practice for that situation before the game. Quinn said that he believed he had a chance and decided to go for it. Post win, he appreciated his QB saying, “Jayden did a fantastic job of buying time, buying time, over to the right side. I don’t know how long the play was. … Thirteen seconds? Yeah, I felt every bit of them.”
Well, what landed the team their win was definitely the Hail Mary. With under a minute left in the game, after a pass to running back Austin Ekeler fell incomplete, Jayden Daniels quickly bounced back by hitting tight end Zach Ertz for an 11-yard gain. He then connected with wide receiver Terry McLaurin for another 13 yards, bringing the Commanders close to midfield, showcasing a brilliant team work.

McLaurin later said, “We know we had enough time left. We practice that literally a few times a week in those situations, got-to-have-it situations.” And with just 2 seconds left on clock, Daniels’ focus was on giving time to his teammates without getting the ball out-of-bounds, and just as the clock ran out, the Haily Mary descended to bring a disappointing loss to the already celebrating Chicago team.
Well, Coach Matt Eberflus could definitely pick up a few lessons from Quinn. And for the Commanders, they definitely made history with this win. It’s a big one for them!
