40 years back, in the 1980s. Baltimore citizens saw their football team, the Baltimore Colts, being torn apart. Their meetings with the NFL stalled. In the 1990s, the Baltimore Ravens made an expansion base that later got shut down. Another NFL franchise, the Indianapolis Colts, named themselves Colts. All hopes were lost. Surprise! Surprise! Ravens QB, Lamar Jackson, is bringing back the city’s lost glory. Just one change, the game is different.
Adam Schefter recently tweeted that the QB has invested in Mayland Colts, the newest team of the National Thoroughbred League. He will join the team as its principal owner. The NTL has expanded from 6 to 10 teams in its second season.

The MVP is fond of horses. He watched Preakness Stakes (thoroughbred horse race held annually on Armed Forces Day) sitting alongside Randall Lane, co-founder of the NTL, in Mayland. The sport immediately pulled the QB towards itself. Impressed by the NFL star’s charisma, Lane said, “Walk a racetrack with Lamar Jackson and you’ll immediately understand his capacity to captivate an audience.” The city is also backing him up.
The chances of a Colts team breaking down again are very low now. Maryland administration has rallied behind the NTL. Under Maryland Governor Wes Moore, the State of Maryland has acquired the Pimlico Race Course’s ownership. While the renovation will take around 3 years, they are preparing to organize a special National Thoroughbred League race event in 2025.
