History has a clever way of repeating itself. And who would know this better than the Commanders fans? It was 1992, the time when Michael Jackson was still charting top 100s, the internet was just making its way into homes, and the now-nostalgic Netflix series were TV shows you had to watch through the ad breaks. Then, it was also the year when Washington reached the NFC championship last after the famous seat cushion game” where the then-Redskins kept the Falcons to a 24-7 and it took just one cushion from the topmost deck at the RFK Stadium to fill the entire field with what the people called “huge confetti” as they celebrated their win. HC Joe Gibbs led the team from a 14-2 regulation after losing only to the Cowboys and the Eagles and straight to the Super Bowl XXVI. At the helm of the team were QB Mark Rypien with his defensive abilities backed by 3,500 yards and 28 TDs, Gerald Riggs, Darrell Green, and receivers Gary Clark and Art Monk with their impressive TDs. Interestingly,

To secure their berth to the SB XXVI, Washington faced the same opponents that they did 33 years later in January 2025. Shocked? Back in the 1991 NFL season, the Commanders crushed Detroit 41-10 in the NFC Championship. It was the pinnacle of the team as they went ahead to beat the Buffalo Bills 37-24 and secure their Super Bowl trophy. The only thought on the team’s mind was exactly what Linebacker Andre Collins spelled out, We just wanted to take care of business and finish out the season the right way.” However, there came a visible drought for the Capital’s team. Until it rained again.

Over three decades of wait, two decades of being a laughingstock, and finishing with the second-worst record (4-13) last season, the long pain came to an end as two stars shone brightest for the Commanders: Jayden Daniels and Dyami Brown. Their heroics? Pulling Washington out of the slump and pushing them to their next NFC Championship. But if you missed the game, here’s the recap. Daniels threw 299 yards and 2 TDs and pulled one of the biggest upsets in divisional-round history. One of the highlights of the game was Jayden’s 42-yard dish to Brown, proving the Commanders’ fans that the good days are ahead. However, the latest offseason shenanigans around this duo just might upset many.

According to many NFL rumors, WR Dyami Brown will be trying waters in the free agency AND he has interests of many fishes in the sea. His $4.94 million/ four-year rookie contract with the Commanders ended with the 2024 season, making him an impending free agent. The Commanders picked him in the 2021 NFL Draft and it’s time for either contract extension talks or finding a new home. And the rumor is that Dyami’s name has already been linked to several teams. The ones that have popped up so far are the Panthers, Texans, and Patriots.

However, the question that remains is should Adam Peters’ Washington re-sign the receiver or pull a new face from the drafts? Well, it all comes down to weighing the scales. The four years Brown spent with the Commanders have been quite meh. However, his short-termed resurgence that perfectly aligned with free agency options did help Washington to improve their numbers. In 2024, he had a single receiving touchdown and 30 receptions for 308 yards. His postseason numbers multiplied and reached 14 receptions for 229 yards along with a TD.

But when it came to talking about his next move, Brown was quite all appreciation. In a conversation with Scott Abraham of ABC7, Dyami said, “I’m just taking this moment right here to show my gratitude. To each and every person that’s been here along this journey. If I’m back here again, open arms. Wherever else I’m at, I’ll continue to build on what’s happening. It wouldn’t be a problem staying. But you know, at the end of the day it’s still a business. So we’ll see.”

At the same time, it is also important to note what Dan Quinn and Peters are planning for the next season. In his end-of-season presser, Peters mentioned, “And now, once we turn that page, we’ll meet with the coaches and really discuss where we want to go next,” Peters said. “And our scouts have been working their tails off on the draft and free agency.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Marshon Lattimore's aggressive style a liability or an asset for the Commanders?

Have an interesting take?

Washington has third most projected available cap space moving forwards and they just might improve the other positions in the team with that money. With the decision that the front office makes for the team, the Commanders might enter the next season looking completely different with 31 impending players, including Brown, might want to try a new home. The fact that the 2025 NFL Draft class, specifically for receivers, not being deep enough might only force hands for teams to check out free agencies. And while the Panthers, the Texans, and the Patriots are coming out at the top for Brown, the Steelers might also sweep him away given the fact that they are still trying to figure out just what they can do with the wide receiver George Pickens.

An alum of North Carolina, Brown’s stats this season don’t fall into the ‘elite’ category. The 25-year-old has recorded 30 receptions while racking up 308 yards in the regular season. He has a single TD to his name. Dyami’s playoff performances were solid. The young WR recorded five receptions, racking up 89 receiving yards. He helped his team seal the win with a TD against the Bucs in the Wild Card round. After that, it was time for the Divisional Round, where the Commanders faced a team that had been roaring all season -the Lions. Brown recorded six receptions for 98 yards in the divisional win over Jared Goff and Co. While Dyami is a gamble for teams, given a very small sample size for success with the team that drafted him, his potential might make teams want to ink him.

So, while the Commanders have to decide on Dyami Brown’s future, there are also talks about CB Marshon Lattimore’s future.

Commanders to cut Marshon Lattimore?

He’s a really good player, but his persona comes off like ‘I’m finna bully you’… He’s talking, doing weird stuff after the play, trying to shove you after the play, he’s trying to get in your head.” That’s what Eagles WR A.J. Brown said about Marshon Lattimore. Brown faced Lattimore in the conference championship after the regular season, where his side emerged victorious 55-23. However, Brown’s statement reflected the Commanders’ CB’s aggression quite accurately.

And now, the talk of the town is that the Commanders might part ways with Marshon Lattimore after a season only after his constant struggle with injuries and, of course, not performing up to their expectations. The team picked him up in the middle of the season in a trade with the Saints.

Marshon played seven seasons with the Saints before joining the Commanders for a few games this season. However, his new team might not keep him around for long. Although the team has spent a lot of money on him, cutting him could free up cap space to invest in other options.

Analysts suggest that Washington should release him rather than hold on to him out of financial guilt. If Lattimore fails to perform, it will negatively impact the team’s overall performance. So, it looks like the Commanders have quite a lot to work on.
