The Baltimore Ravens just acquired one of the most prolific running backs in the league, and that’s none other than Derrick Henry. There are parallels to the Derrick Henry-Ravens episode. The 30-year-old athlete shared on the Pivot Podcast that he was in contact with Eric DeCosta, who was interested in having him on the roster and was eager about it. But here’s the catch. His ex-Alabama teammate Marlon Humphrey had a different story to tell.

The Ravens’ CB says that his move to the Ravens was sudden and implied that he didn’t anticipate it happening. But there are a couple of truths to both sides of the story. The Ravens CB came on his own podcast Punch Line Podcast with Marlon Humphrey and spilled the beans about the surprising transfer.

The CB got a call from Eric DeCosta who told him that he was conversing with Derrick Henry. The Ravens GM expressed his desire to acquire the ex-Titans RB. Humphrey offered DeCosta to speak to Derrick Henry to see what was going on. But DeCosta didn’t want his cards out in the open, so he told Marlon Humphrey not to poke the bear, meaning not to initiate a conversation about Henry moving to the Ravens.

The Ravens CB “casually” called Derrick Henry, and he found out that he was in Dallas. Humphrey tried to make Henry confess that he was moving to the Dallas Cowboys. But to the Ravens CB’s disappointment, he got no such news. The very next day, Marlon Humphrey found out that Derrick Henry had signed with the Baltimore Ravens. The RB signed a 2-year $16 million deal with the Baltimore team.

Humphrey felt a “slight betrayal of trust” coming from Derrick Henry after the trade transpired. The Ravens CB said that he “probably could have tweeted out the crown emoji” in welcome of the running back, but that didn’t happen. But Derrick Henry’s side is a bit different.

Here’s the Derrick Henry-version about the Baltimore Ravens

Derrick Henry went on The Pivot Podcast and talked about why he decided to side with the Baltimore Ravens. He mentioned that his interactions with the Ravens felt “genuine and they really wanted” him. Eric DeCosta had been in contact with him before the days of his trade deadline.

“They sound interested like they really want me to come there come in trying to make an impact,” said Henry at one point in the podcast. Another reason behind Henry joining the Ravens is that he wanted to play alongside Lamar Jackson.

“[Lamar Jackson]’s so dynamic in how he plays, and his playmaking ability, especially me seeing it going against these guys for a little while now. So, [I’m] excited to play with him. He had a great year this year, [and he] did a lot of great things,” said Henry about Jackson. It would be fair to say that by teaming up with Lamar Jackson, they will have the most special tandem in NFL history.

But again, the moral of the story is that some things coincide with these parallels, like the fact that both Marlon Humphrey and Derrick Henry were in contact with Eric DeCosta. And DeCosta is interested in the RB from earlier. It just makes one wonder how long Eric DeCosta had his eyes on Derrick Henry.
