Let’s be real, 2024 has been a rollercoaster for the Giants fans. And rookie receiver Malik Nabers? He’s been riding shotgun on that coaster, dealing with everything from a nagging hip flexor to a concussion that sidelined him for two games earlier in the season. Remember that time his “groin issue” turned out to be a hip flexor that almost kept him out of the Saints game? Talk about a close call! Add to that, Nabers hasn’t exactly been shy about voicing his frustration with the Giants, especially after those rough losses.

Back in November, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the New York Giants 30-7, extending the Giants’ losing streak to six games. Rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers expressed his frustration after the game, calling the Giants’ performance “soft.” Nabers, who led the team in receptions and yards despite missing three games, didn’t receive his first target until the second half. He questioned his usage, stating, “Start getting the ball when it’s 30-0. What do you want me to do?”

When asked why he wasn’t getting the ball earlier, Nabers suggested reporters ask head coach Brian Daboll. The Giants’ offense struggled throughout the game, accumulating only 45 total yards in the first half with Tommy DeVito at quarterback.

So it’s safe to say that when he was asked, “NFL history. Anyone would be throwing you the ball, who do you want?” during an interview with JPAFootball on X, he replied, “Jayden Daniels.” The interviewer and fans were surprised. The follow-up question was, “That’s a great answer. Hey, maybe we’ll see that happen, who knows?” Malik said, “You never know.”

But was anyone really surprised that Nabers would pick Daniels to throw him the ball? These two were inseparable at LSU, lighting up the field together and becoming top NFL draft picks. Plus, remember that whole Rookie of the Year bet they had going before the league shut it down? It’s clear they’ve got a special connection, and Nabers himself has said he “probably wouldn’t be here right now” without Daniels.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Malik Nabers right to call the Giants 'soft,' or is he just venting frustration?

Have an interesting take?

And get this – after Daniels and the Washington Commanders clinched a playoff spot, Nabers was cheering him on, even posting about it on Instagram! Sure, some Giants fans didn’t appreciate him rooting for a “rival,” but in the end, he was just supporting his friend. It’s a “brotherly relationship,” after all.

On the other hand, while Nabers is all about supporting his buddy Jayden, he also wants the Giants to bring in a seasoned QB next year.

Malik Nabers gets real about his expectations for the 2025 season

Giants’ star wide receiver has made it known what he hopes the team will do with their quarterback situation in 2025. On February 5, Nabers told PFF Live that he wants a veteran quarterback in the locker room, especially if the Giants decide to draft a rookie with their No. 3 overall pick. He doesn’t seem to have a preference between potential rookie QBs like Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward.

Nabers explained, “I would want to have a vet in there. If we decide to pick a rookie, in my eye I would want a vet to be in that same room with that rookie teaching him some stuff so when he’s out there — he’s not just out there in his head [thinking] he has to be the savior of this team. That’s a lot to put on a rookie.” Nabers himself had an amazing rookie season in 2024, racking up an NFL record 109 receptions for a rookie, along with 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns.

However, Nabers and the Giants went through a quarterback carousel in 2024, with four different players starting under center, including Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito. With Jones now with the Vikings, the Giants are clearly looking for a new direction at quarterback.
