It looks like 2025 years also not going to be kind to Mike McCarthy. Since he left the Dallas Cowboys, two teams have shown interest in him: the Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints. But the Bears moved forward with the former Lions offensive coordinator. That left just one franchise for the former Cowboys head coach, but there was a twist.

We were anticipating his future would be in New Orleans, but things have gone differently. However, NFL’s Tom Pelissero has dropped a bomb revealing the most exclusive update on Mike McCarthy’s future. In a tweet, Pelissero wrote: “Former #Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy has decided to focus on the 2026 hiring cycle and will not coach in the NFL this season, sources tell me and @RapSheet.” Shocking for most of the football fans. This update gives a better picture of the New Orleans HC position as Kellen Moore is the only worthy candidate left for the Orleans HC position.

This news came after Tony Pauline, a reporter, revealed how McCarthy’s interview with the Orleans went. The reporter revealed, “What the Saints will do for a head coach is anyone’s guess. Time and time, people say they have no clue what the organization will do, as they are the only team left with an open vacancy.” The reporter also added, “Rumors at Shrine practice had McCarthy getting the Saints job but people on Wednesday told me initial conversations with the team have not gone well and people in the New Orleans organization are not enamored with the former Cowboys coach.” Well, this might be a confirmation that Orleans is not gonna hire McCarthy.

So, the Eagles’ offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is the only person left ahead for the HC competition. He joined the Eagles in 2024 and has also worked as an OC for Jim Harbaugh‘s Chargers as well. He was a quarterback for the Lions and Cowboys. The 36-year-old has a great opportunity to elevate his coaching career. Looking back at his offensive track record with Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, and the overall Eagles, Kellen Moore can be the next Orleans HC.

But to talk about Mike McCarthy, his disastrous season with Jerry Jones‘ injury-laden Cowboys has overshadowed his Super Bowl ring. Several franchises have shown disinterest in McCarthy and the Chicago Bears are no exception to this.

The Bears too snubbed Mike McCarthy before the Orleans

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Saints dodge a bullet by not hiring McCarthy, or did they miss a golden opportunity?

Have an interesting take?

Talking about the Bears-McCarthy drama, they showed extreme interest in McCarthy around January 5-6, 2025. Interestingly, McCarthy was the only coach in the Bears’ list of nine interview candidates who had head coaching experience. He was only an inch close to getting into the job. But the Bears appeared to decrease their intensity of interest in him.

And talking about the New Orleans Saints, apart from his interview, the Saints have the worst salary cap this year. The cap was around 50 million dollars. It would have chained McCarthy to work only in the respective salary space. But eventually, the Saints removed the former Cowboys HC’s name from the list.

Alright. So, what do you think? Mike McCarthy will be back with a bang! Well, the ex-Cowboys HC has already given us hints about how he thinks as to what will be the future. In December 2024, McCarthy said, “I don’t like to talk about myself that way, but I’ll just be clear: I’m a winner. I know how to win. I’ve won a championship. I won a championship in this building. And that’s who I am. We’ll see where it goes.” Okay! But looking at the scenario in January, the big question is, will the HC sit out of the league in the 2025 season? Only time will tell.
