The New York Jets are taking care of business and they are doing it quickly. There was some hint of Robert Saleh’s firing, however, it still caught everyone by surprise. But the 2-3 opening implored the Jets to take care of some more business. They have been at an impasse with Haason Reddick for a long time, and now it was time for the team to act.

The former Philadelphia pass rusher has been on a holdout ever since he arrived at the Jets facility. He did an introductory presser on April Fool’s Day but hasn’t stepped on the field since then. The veteran amassed millions of dollars in fines and Adam Schefter has more details about the case.

Schefter’s recent Instagram post said, “CAA has parted ways with New York’s holdout pass rusher Haason Reddick, per sources.” The ESPN Journalist further added, “Reddick already has missed five games, forfeiting nearly $800,000 per game, totaling over $4 million. On top of this, he has accumulated more than $5 million in NFL-mandated fines.”

Other sources suggest that by missing these 5 games, Reddick has piled up $4.2 million in fines out of his $14.25 million a year non-guaranteed salary. The 2022 DPOY now has about $9 million in fines that he’s subject to. Reddick’s parting ways with CAA suggests that he’s no longer represented by his agents and is in the market for a new agency.

However, NFLPAs website still shows Tory Dandy and Jimmy Sexton as his agents. There’s a five-day waiting period on website updation after the paperwork was filed. Per Mike Florio, players and CAA part ways when it is initiated by a player, and given Reddick’s circumstances, it all makes sense.

Haason Reddick might have been lied to

The former DPOY registered 16 sacks in the 2022 season. His performance got better in the next season when he recorded 11 sacks and 23 QB hits. Naturally, he was in line for a huge promotion, but the Eagles declined to give him a pay raise. Hence, Reddick thought it was time to move on. He was traded to the New York Jets for a conditional third-round pick in 2026 draft. But he was about to be hit with a curveball.

The New York Jets were under the impression that the pass rusher will play under his current contract and sources suggest that Reddick’s agent informed the NY Jets that he’ll play under the current deal. The pass rusher was still hoping that the Jets would give him a new deal, but that didn’t happen, and the NY team moved forward with his old contract.

The team owner, Woody Johnson, pleaded with Reddick to come back and play for the team. “Haason, get in your car, drive down I-95 and come to the New York Jets,” Johnson said on Tuesday. “We can meet you and give you an escort right into the building and you’ll fit right in. And you’re going to love it here and you’re going to feel welcome and you’re going to accomplish great things with us.”

Reddick is getting close to the deadline for not being able to play this entire season. If that happens, his contract will shift to 2025.
