Liar!! With Davante Adams in town, Puka Nacua is going back to his college days. Yep it’s happening. The moment Adams was announced as the latest Rams WR, questions started to emerge on whether Nacua will give up his No.17 jersey. I mean, it’s the same number that Adams has worn throughout his NFL career. From his early days in Green Bay to his short stint in New York, Adams walked in and found his No.17 hanging in the locker room. And it seems like that trend will continue thanks to a sacrifice from Puka Nacua.
On Tuesday, Rams and Nacua made a joint announcement on social media where the Rams WR was seen wearing his old No.12. Well, the caption of him switching from No.17 to No.12 also read like he proudly accepted it, “Carrying on the Nacua legacy! The #12 not only represents me on the football field, but all of my brothers and the sacrifices that my family have made before me to be able to wear this jersey at this moment. I know when I put on that #12, it’s a piece of armor that’s representing my family and always protecting me.” Translation? No.12 is indeed a special number for the 23-year-old. This No.12 links him with his BYU days and, of course, his brothers, as he mentioned in the post.
His three siblings, Chanel, Kai and Samson, all had donned No.12 in their sporting endeavors. But beneath that proud face lies a disappointed Nacua—that’s what Lions receiver Amon-Ra St.Brown believes. On the very post where Nacua spoke highly about accepting No.12 with open arms, St.Brown commented, “So we lying now.” Actually, St.Brown isn’t calling Nacua a liar out of nowhere. There’s more to the story than he is showing off.

Just today, on the latest episode of the St.Brown podcast, Nacua seemingly pressed on the fact that he wouldn’t dare give up No.17 even for $2M. “I don’t think I’d do for $2M.” So, this makes us think, did he back off from his stance of not trading away his No.17? Well, right now, it feels like he did give up. But hey, it’s for the greater good, right? With Adams coming on board, the chances of the Rams making a deep run into the playoffs next season only get bigger.

Can Davante Adams give Rams that extra edge on the offense?
See the moment Aaron Rodgers’ exit was confirmed after two miserable years in the Big Apple. It also kind of suggested the Jets won’t be sticking with Adams either. Like the financial ramifications of keeping him as a member of Gang Green were too much. Adams was going to take up $38.3M on the Jets salary cap. That and also $35.6M in nonguaranteed base salary in 2025 all from the contract the Jets inherited by giving up a 2025 third-round pick to the Raiders.
So, it was only a matter of time before the Jets released him, giving up a major cap relief of $29.9M. With him lingering in free agency, the Rams wasted no time in offering him a two-year, $46M contract. He comes into LA after a roller coaster of a season where he played 3 games as a Raider and 11 as a Jet. It saw him finish with 67 receptions for 854 yards and 7 TDs only with the Jets. Now, if you count his 209 receiving yards from Vegas last season, that was his fifth consecutive campaign over 1,000 receiving yards.
What’s your perspective on:
Does Amon-Ra St. Brown have a point, or is he just stirring the pot with Nacua?
Have an interesting take?
Obviously, the 6-time Pro Bowler brings a lot to the Rams’ offense that will soon lose Cooper Kupp. Probably to fill in former Super Bowl MVP’s spot who has been a bit injury-prone in the last 3 campaigns. Rams went ahead and gave Adams the deal he probably never expected. So, only time will tell how this move will pan out come the 2025 season. No matter how this move will play out in LA. There’s one thing for sure: Puka Nacua will not hate Adams even if he took his No.17 jersey. After all, it was him who said, “I grew up a fan of Davante Adams and it’s surreal that I’m gonna be lining up with him.” Expecting them to hug it out if at all there are any differences.
