We are witnessing a fairytale in the making. Saquon Barkley is not just an ordinary runner back, he’s literally rewriting the definition of what it means to be the greatest. His performance on the gridiron this season was nothing short of a masterclass. Not just that, he came so close to achieving the impossible by almost breaking Eric Dickerson’s all-time record of 2,105 yards. Although he was not able to engrave his name amongst the Hall of Famers this time, he clearly made a statement that he’s a legend.
Speaking of legends, Barry Sanders, who knows a thing or two about breaking records, recently tweeted in support of Saquon Barkley. ‘We rushed for 2,053 yards in 1997, and they split the #MVP between Brett and me. I hope they do the same for Saquon and his line’ he said. Barry reminded us of his remarkable season when he rushed for 2,053 yards and shared the MVP with quarterback Brett Favre. He expressed his hope that Barkley and his offensive line would receive the same recognition. This message makes one thing clear: no matter who wins the award, everyone who deserves it should get a piece of the pie.
.@PatMcAfeeShow is dead right. We rushed for 2053 yards in 1997 and they split the #MVP between Brett and I. I hope that do that for @saquon and his line.

He didn’t just stop there, he further praised Saquon Barkley, on NBC. “He still has a lot left in the tank. He’s in his prime and it really lifts all running backs” Barry said. He’s absolutely right, we saw it in the week 17 game against the Cowboys. He totaled 167 rushing yards in that game, and that’s impressive. Sanders’ words underline the importance of Barkley’s achievements not just for him, but for the entire position of running back. Affirming that his success is a source of pride for all those who have played the position.

Saquon received his flowers from the greatest, from the fans, and from everyone who watched him create his legacy. His team’s success is the most important factor behind his performance. The Lions’ offensive line has been ranked number 1 several times this season. That explains a lot about Barkley’s remarkable achievements. But there are other teams with their Aces lurking around, who might just outrun Barkley in the near future.
Who is Likely to Snatch the Throne Away from Saquon Barkley?
The name who’s been undeniably amazing all season is Bills’ QB Josh Allen. He has engraved his name as one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks, making him an absolute threat for the MVP award run. Josh has surpassed all expectations with flying colors, leading his team to a 13-4 dominant record, and clinching the AFC East. He even delivered the most mind-blowing play of the season with a 26-yard touchdown run against the Chiefs. That literally ended their hopes of being undefeated this season. He further cemented his success, when he led Buffalo to a thrilling 48-42 victory against the Lions.

But wait, it will be a mistake to think Josh is the only one after the crown. When we talk about Quarterbacks, Lamar Jackson is the first name that pops up. He has already secured the MVP Award in 2019 and 2023. His team is currently at the top of the AFC North for the second consecutive year, with a recent 35-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns. The man got a QB rating over 100 in 13 games this season, Sheesh. If you can hear the drums beating for Lamar to take the throne away from both Allen and Barkley, you might not be wrong.
