In Matthew Stafford’s own words, the trade request from the Lions in 2021 was “the hardest conversation.” No matter how good Stafford is playing for the LA Rams, one can not deny that he was a failed project in Detroit. With Stafford by their side, the Lions failed to win even a playoff game, let alone reach the Super Bowl. After Stafford’s trade to the Rams, many believed it was over for the star QB. However, things started taking a U-turn when the Georgia alum went on to win a Super Bowl in his first season with the Rams.
Talk about a redemption story!
All the rage he had inside from being traded by his former team (though it was mutual), he showed it on the gridiron. Now that the QB has moved on and is happy with the Rams, a former Lions player has dropped a truth bomb.

Calvin Johnson, former Lions WR, made an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show. As they were talking about the Lions’ chances of making it to the Super Bowl, the host asked a question. “Do you think he’s earned the right to reside in the same Gallery in Canton, Ohio as you do?” Johnson did not hold back from dropping an interesting tidbit. “If you leave it up to me, I mean, we haven’t seen—he doesn’t get enough accolades. I mean, he does, he gets the accolades out there on the field. But he doesn’t get enough, I feel like, respect around the league. He’s starting to get it now. But I feel like he didn’t get a lot of that early on. And a lot of that came because we were in Detroit.” That seems right about the QB.
Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson played together for seven years with the Lions. But with Stafford, the Lions never really had the kind of success they’re having now with Jared Goff. That was true for Matthew as well. Some Lions fans would always throw scathing rants his way during his time with Detroit. “Once he went out, he began to get all the props that he deserved,” added Calvin.
Now, with the Rams and Lions both playing in the playoffs, there is a great possibility that these two may have a face-off. And it will be interesting to see Stafford playing against his former team. While we wait for the possible Rams vs Lions clash, QB Stafford has a message for the Rams fans ahead of their wild-card clash game against the Vikings.

The Los Angeles natives are going through a terrible time as the wildfires cause havoc. Because of this uncertain natural calamity, the NFL has moved the Rams and Vikings game to Arizona from the Rams’ home field. On Monday, the NFL initially scheduled the wild card game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. But now, the two teams will clash at State Farm Stadium.
It’s heartbreaking to think about what everyone in LA is dealing with right now. Stafford, on Thursday addressing his fans, said, “Every time we suit up, we’re the Los Angeles Rams. We play for the people in this community, the people that support us. And this week will be another example of that. Hopefully, it will be a great escape for people who have been going through tough times here, in the last couple of days.” That’s certainly a calamity. The massive fires claimed the homes of multiple sports figures, including Los Angeles Lakers coach J. J. Redick and Louisville quarterback Miller Moss as well.
A few hours after Stafford spoke to the media, the NFL released a statement announcing the change in the game’s venue. While the Rams lose their home-field advantage, the real heartbreak lies in seeing so many people in LA suffering. Countless families have evacuated, and far too many have watched as the fires reduced their homes to ashes. We hope these wildfires come to an end soon, bringing relief to everyone.
