Here’s the deal—Liam Coen’s arrival as the Jaguars‘ head coach has everyone talking. And his job number one? That’s probably pulling off a Baker Mayfield level heroics with Trevor Lawrence—at least that’s what the Jags’ fans are looking for. No pressure, right? And honestly, looks like he’s doing everything to turn the tables in the next season. Starting with a solid coaching staff for the QB and the team.
Earlier this month, Coen’s staff hired the former Vikings assistant quarterback coach/assistant offensive coordinator, Grant Udinski, as their next OC. Under his coaching, the Vikings’ QB, Sam Darnold, recorded the best season of his career stacking over 4,000 yards and 35 touchdowns. Besides, he also coached the rookie backup QB, J. J. McCarthy. Safe to say, the OC knows a thing or two about molding a quarterback. And now? Well, he’s all set to work with Lawrence in the 2025 season.
During the pressers on Thursday, Udinski talked about his commitment to coaching and lauds the physical traits of Lawrence. “There’s a lot that stands out once again that the physical talent you can see and you guys probably have had more time watching it than even me over the course of the past couple of years,” Udinski said. “The most exciting thing for me is the guy and the person as I’ve started to form this relationship.”

Sure, the OC has worked with a couple of quarterbacks earlier, but he knows that the QBs are still human beings and he’s well aware of their work pressures. He further added, “Like I said, the quarterback position is still played by a person. It’s still a human being back there who’s got to stand back there and navigate tight pockets and hits and escape and deal with 11, you know, ten other guys in the huddle, all 11 on defense and make those decisions in snap judgment. So the person that we’re getting to deal with and work with on a day-to-day basis is super exciting for me because, listen, if we’re up here spending as much time as we do trying to pour ourselves into somebody, he’s (Trevor Lawrence) the type of guy that you want to invest time in.“
Additionally, the OC declared that he’s beyond fired up to work with Lawrence. You see, Udinski didn’t just want to know Lawrence, but he wants Lawrence to know him as well. Besides, he’s all in on a collaborative approach. Just as the team is collaborative with the coaching staff, he wants to be collaborative with the players as well, especially with the QB.
Or should we say in the OC’s words, “There are no dictatorships or anything like that in this business or on our team.” Earlier, the head coach has already mentioned a couple of times that for the team, it’s their players who come first. And now? Well, their newly appointed offensive coordinator confirmed that the team’s gonna do everything to lead their players towards success.
The Steelers have their eyes on Trevor Lawrence
If there’s one team that’s making a roar for their quarterbacks issues, then that’s absolutely the Pittsburgh Steelers. Nah, scratch that. They’ve been hitting some hot headlines for the QB issues for years. The reason? Well, ever since they’ve lost 5-consecutive loss, they’re still stuck figuring out whether to roll with Russell Wilson or take a chance on Justin Fields.

But looks like, they’re kinda getting bored over this debate as they’re looking for some other QBs as well. Yep, you read that right. According to Ryan Burr of Big 10 Network, the Steelers have contacted the Jaguars about Trevor Lawrence and are trying to trade for the Jacksonville quarterback. WOW! That’s something new and absurd in their QB hunting saga. Not to mention, this report is coming from someone who doesn’t actually cover the NFL news.

Now, we don’t know how much potential this report carries. But there could be many reasons behind this. First and foremost, it looks like the Steelers are possibly contacting every team in a hope they can find a starting QB. And looking at their QB troubles not for years but for decades, it seems like a pretty valid reason.

Besides, the Jags offered a big contract to Trevor Lawrence just after three seasons and he’s gonna earn around $55 million average per year under his contract extension terms. But! But!! Apart from the big money, the contract gave the Jaguars a window to trade him. Not that they’re looking to trade him, but in case they decide to part ways with him, he would have to agree for any trade.
But at the end of the day, the Jaguars are probably not gonna trade him considering the coaching staff is excited to work with him. And here’s the kicker—right after the news hit the headlines, the Jaguars’ beat reporter Michael DiRocco revealed in a statement that the report is “Ridiculous.” According to DiRocco, “Regarding recent report that Steelers have inquired about a trade for Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, a Jaguars source said there’s ‘no chance’ they’ll trade Lawrence and called the idea ‘ridiculous.'”
