Pete Carroll is out as the head coach for the Seattle Seahawks after 14 seasons. After his firing news, many analysts remember his era with the franchise, especially with the now “benched QB” Russell Wilson. Pat McAfee and his team are also reminiscent of Russell Wilson’s departure from the Hawks in March 2022 while discussing Carroll’s reluctance to leave the team.
Carroll is no longer leading the team after 14 seasons, during which they made it to the playoffs 10 times and won the Super Bowl. The team owner, Jody Allen, announced this decision on Wednesday. Shortly after that, on their show, McAfee and his team recalled how Wilson was also traded from the franchise while talking about Carroll’s unexpected exit.

In the Thursday episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” the team delved into the parallels between Pete Carroll’s exit and Russell Wilson’s departure from the Seattle Seahawks. They recalled Wilson’s incredible moments with the team under Carroll’s leadership. McAfee’s co-host, Boston Connor, recalled Wilson’s departure from the team in 2022, lining it with Carroll’s firing as HC. He said that Carroll went from the winning quarterback and from their franchise’s Super Bowl to facing a shift. Connor mentioned, “People feel the way he feels Russell Wilson,” calling him an incredible player for the Seattle Seahawks, contributing to various remarkable moments.
Despite this, the team’s performance changed, and Wilson was traded to the Broncos. The co-host also highlighted that the Hawks went from the playoffs to a nine-and-eight record this season. He said, “It feels like they pushed him [Carroll] out,” wanting something new. McAfee’s team emphasized that “they left him for dead.” After Wilson’s exit, Carroll led his team into the playoffs in 2022, where they lost to the 49ers. However, despite leading them to the playoffs round that year, this year, they were just one game away from making it. However, still, Jody Allen “pushed him out” from the team’s HC position.

The podcast team was also puzzled by why Carroll still wanted to be with the franchise. According to them, the coach still seems eager to be with the team, as he settled down for a senior advisor role after being demoted from the head coach position.
However, the reason Carroll did so was revealed by himself when he became emotional after parting ways with the team.
